I just got 8K in Govt Grant, anyone else?

So I got this call from a nice lady with a heavy accent. She said her name was Krysty Parmar and she represented the Federal Institute of Govt Grant and that her ID # was 1430 and I was selected for a Govt grant to use as I liked. It was from 8K to 25K depending on my request.

I played along till she got to the point of my bank account and my Routing number. Ofcourse I had to turn down the grant since I couldn't give out my routing number and bank acct info.

She even said she'll wait on hold while I go find my check book so I could give my routing info to her.

The one thing I forgot to do was ask for her number. Oh well. Maybe if she calls anyone else, you can do me a favor and ask for their number, then post it here. It might be a hot deal, good for lots of laughs.

Anyway, just doing my part to make everyone aware of this SCAM. It sounded like a new one to me.

Don't you just love getting grants and offers of large sums of money that you didn't apply for? It's like winning the lottery. :|

You missed out dude!

I got in on that deal and another with a guy from Africa, he's giving me a nice big check and all I have to do is give $500 to him! He's such an idiot!

Sounds perfectly plausible to me, dont forget to give out your SSN, it helps with the transaction

honestly, I'd be tempted to start making up a random number as I go:

- Sir what is your account number?
- 183453462309734
- Sir, that's not an account number
- Well I'm reading it off my bank book, it's not like I'm just making it up as I go.

haha, very nice. The institute of govt grant is what would make me question it. Otherwise I haven't heard of this scam.

I got the same kind of call, though mine was for a credit card deal, not a grant. Not surprisingly when I said, "This is great, the FBI hardly pays us anything anymore" he hung up. 😎

ummm dont you need a pin to withdraw money from a bank accnt anyway? what exactly were they planning on doing with it???? 😕

Oh, when I tried to hang up, she kept on trying to keep me on the line saying:
You don't want the 8 thousand dollars? Sir, hear me out, we have thousands of qualified people who are getting it, don't miss out.... then I just told her I didn't need the money and she could give it to someone else and I hanged up.

Thanks, this thread reminded me about needing to fill out my FAFSA.

Hahaha thanks for the headsup, i better apply to get my pin again, and begin my renewel stuff.

Oh one thing that was scary. The reason I didn't just hang up early was because I wanted to know how much they knew about me. Turns out she had my NAME, Address, phone number (thus the call).

I'm thinking it was from one of those free online offers that never came. Wonder which one. Probably that RED LOBSTER $50 gift cert deal where they made you sign up for more and more things but never giving out the cert till you finally gave up and cancel, but by then they've got your name, addr and phone number already.

So they're stupid enough to call you and try that scam? At the very least I'd contact the police or FBI to notify them since the phone company may be able to supply helpful information. Sometimes these people are really stupid and easily caught, sometimes not.

All you need is the routing and account numbers to print out your own checks with a laser printer.

People can get your name, address, and your phone number from the White Pages.. Unless you are unlisted.

Should have 3-way called the Police... Can they trace a call if it's on a 3-way?

I doubt they'd be able to do it on the call, if you've ever called the police on a non-emergency number you have to go through an operator, then probably 2-3 other folks before you get to the person you want. And even if the crook stayed on the line through all that, they aren't going to have the equipment to put a trace on from the desk of the detective you reached--even if they were interested in going after them at that point.

Of course, I could be wrong, but, I'd bet you have a better chance of getting an unsolicted government grant for real then getting a call traced that way.
