After many weeks of putting money aside for a brand video card i finally took the plunge and bought a new one, well i get it home and im about to put it in when i notice one of the Transistors was hanging off so i touched it and it fell off in my hands!!

So the daredevil i'am i decided to tape it back on..

And it worked!!!

but then reality clicked in and I realized i have to fix this properly sooooo what's the best way to reattach it?

haha, damn, small world, one of mine fell off my ati radeon all in wonder. I RMAed it back to newegg and got another one. The trasistor or whatever it was was detached and in the box when i opened it. I guess you could solder it on, i dunno though

If there are no connections under the transistor then it'll be easily soldered. Saying that it's not really worth nessing around with it because you'll be very sorry if you mess it up.

Just RMA the board and get a new one.

If there were no connections then it was not a transistor that fell off unless it is fake like the cache memory on some old chinese motherboards. I'm sure the oldtimers remember those. I hope that deal hasn't returned.

i had the same thing happen to my voodoo5. i noticed a transistor hanging half-way off the board (about 3 months after i got it), which explained the artifacts on screen. i took it back to futureshop, and they told me they wouldn't do anything unless i bought their extended warranty.

RMA the thing; it arrived "defective", so you have every reason to insist on a quality product (assuming you purchased it "new&quot😉.
Besides if you try to "fix" it and are not successful, then your right to return the product is gone with the wind.

Check the transister with a magnifying glass and use a tweezer to remove any carpet fibres (circumstanstial evidence). Then follow your original story and RMA it to the mom & pop (they will be able to RMA to ATI, or will not go for the deal). If someone decides to pull a CSI, they will have nothing on you.

They're designed so one or more of those can fall off without detrimentally effecting the performance of the card.(they do this because they frequently fall off because of jolts during shipping) One of 2 Radeon Le's I bought had one fall off, guess what the one with the missing capacitor overclocked better! It's been running for months with no problem.

Update: Looked at the photo after I posted and its the same capcitor that fell off my card.

Hehe. The exact same transistor fell off my Radeon LE. It was my fault so a bit of solder and voilà.
