my pledgemaster wanted her comp fixed.. i fixed it.. reformatted, reinstalled windows. as i was plugging everything back, i came across a video-out plug whihc i stuck into the graphics card. fit PERFECTLY...

3 min later: Hey where's the external HD power plug??? Apparently I plugged a power cord for the HD into the graphics card....

Now I have a fried MX420 in my hand, and I'm about to get killed.... Hahaha nah she's cool with it, but at least this wasn't my 7800GT being fried...

Edit: So the power plug for the EXTERNAL HD is the same as the Video out plug for the gfx card. I've never seen a power plug with pins inside like a PS2/Video Out cable, so I checked the pins and then checked the holes on the graphics card. Matched exactly. I plugged it in and it obviously fried the card.

I'm really confused too.

What kind of power plug are you talking about? It fit into what on the videocard?

So the power cord fits in a VGA output?

TV-Out, aka S-Video plug...

The pins matched for a video out plug. It fit exactly. If you looked at the power plug, you would think its video out too.

Blackouts, plugging every socket in sight -- sounds like it's time for you to cut back on the drinking.

So you never thought to check where the plug came from?

TV-Out, aka S-Video plug...

Oh, that makes more sense than a VGA type connection for power.

Not my own house. I have my plugs clearly sorted out, but it's one of those desks with the computer cage you know.. all that's hanging out is the plugs, so i just plugged them in 1 by 1... Man. I feel so bad.

I need to get a replacement card ASAP tomorrow. Frys of Best Buy. Any cheaper cards other than the 9250? I see those for $40, but are there even cheaper cards?

You should probably explain that it's S-Video and not VGA. I thought you a were a total fvcktard (and I still kinda thing you are for not checking) but no one prolly knows what kinda power cord you're talking about that looks like a VGA cable end.

There are a bunch of enclosures that use that style plug, or similar, eg this

WTF are you talking about? Do you have any pics of the cables and connectors? You aren't clear on what the hell you are talking about. What HD plug is there that fits into a VGA port?
