I just sat down, started thinking, and then started writing, I haven't proofed it at all, it's completely raw, it's weird!
Long ago, people relized information was ultimately the key to evolution even at an atomic level, somthing somewhere somehow figured out it was somthing to do to create what ever created what ever of what ever that created us. ok so we've got the basis of creation covered, good that's enough on that for, um how about we say ever. reccomendations if you want to better understand that last bit of gibberish I typed above. There is a great book that I picked up from audible.com called A Short History of Nearly Everything, really a great book to read, or for me even better to listen to in able to really fully grasp how we've assimilated information over time better defined as history.
But let's get to the point, whatever that may be
. Right now we live in an especially interesting time in our history, we've created manageable world wide communication, and have the ability to give the world the equal amount of information. By creating global networks we have gained that ability. Better yet that technology has reached a cost level that the "civilized" world can provide it with a fair amount of ease.
In all honesty open access to all available information will be our ultimate key to success as an intelligent global body. Fear and misuse of some of that same great information lies stuff that we've defized to kill large populations of our own kind for what ever sick reason. Damn I've wondered off in to describing a utopia, but in the end, that is the greatest thing for us all, and we really can accomplish it. In the end global interconnection is the key. MIT's OLPC project is the beginnings of it, and we probably won't live long enough to fully understand the impacts of it. That's a damn shame, but know you took part in it and feel good about that.
We've known this for a long time, and even today governments try to prevent people from obtaining it. Hell, even the land of the free, brave, mighty yadda yadda USA does it. We say it's for good reason, history of the future will determine that. Also know that we've gone through extensive lenghts to make sure it's locked up real tight so it'll last a long time and our childerens childern dig it up as historical artifact it'll be what they remember our generations for, mass destruction, how awsome is that!

All information we learn and record is bennificial to us in the long term, even the bad stuff if it doesn't completely kill us all hopefully somebody somewhere will have a clue as to how to cope with it. Speaking of which it might be a good idea to send some samples of DNA of ours in to deep space not aiming particularly anywhere hopefully not in to a star, black hole might be a good choice, it could warp our DNA in to some alternate universe or something hopefully preserving some peice of ourselves for some other intelligent (hopefully more so then us mortal humans) for all future and perhaps past historic univi (thats plural for universe right?)

So we've descovered how to store practically infinate amounts of information, and how to reletively easily deseminate it to a large population you ain't seen nothin yet! Out of all the information in all the universe we will never descover all of it and everything about it or even understand it. Seriously our brains would implode or some ******. But hey, it's a lofty unachiveable goal, let's go for it!
