I just found a smoke bomb in my basement!!!

I am cleaning out my basement and deep in one of the drawers of the old workbench I find this dark green metal canister....about 6" high with a handle and a safety pin.

On the side it says - M18 VIOLET SMOKE

I asked my wife if I could try setting it off out in the street ....but she discouraged me

What should I do with it?

EDIT: We have only been here 3 years, so it must be from previous owner

Heh...my brother-in-law had a smoke grenade for a long time and was always talking of using it on the 4th of July. Never did.

One day, while at his parents' house (they live behind an all-girls high school), he tossed it over into the back parking lot.

Not too long after that...cop cars and firetrucks everywhere
