I tried that years ago. Turns out I'm not so good at remembering to hold my hands with palms facing away from me, either.

I was sure I was going left because I used the trick! So I got even more lost than usual.

Best way I found to get left and right correct is to write it on the tips of my shoes. Sadly, since I'm now a 40-something professional type guy, my shoes are not always things I can write on these days.
