I just dumped my iPhone 5 and bought an HTC one. I feel liberated, and excited.... Except I cannot stand the crap keyboard. I need suggestions for one that will be a lot more precise and and not nearly as laggy.

This is my first venture into Android... Halp!

I'm using SwiftKey with the Neon keyboard. I like the styling and its predictive capability.

(and before anyone asks, I only use Advanced Task Killer because I like autokilling and seeing 900 MB free, not that I need that much available 😀)

I just got Google keyboard and its great. Much less choppier and more responsive. I still must say that iOS has the win for the keyboard but I think I can get used to this. Is there a way to alter the sensitivity? I seem to be having issues when I touch in certain spots... It tends to require that I tap repeatedly.
 
Really? I found HTC default keyboard to be better than a lot of defaults. (Here's looking at you Samsung). But the joy of using Android is that you can swap it out, unlike iOS. I enjoy my Swype and Thumb Keyboard.

Your idea is joy is my idea of frustration, I gave every Android keyboard a shot. I even bought all the ones that cost money. At the end of the day I longed for iOS's keyboard because I find it worlds better. All the choices Android have mean little to me.

OP you will adjust, well maybe, if you're like me you'll semi adjust to it. I use Swiftkey on my Nexus 4, but I still feel like it's not very good. To me it was like going from a high end mechanical keyboard to a regular Microsoft one. I would pay $50 for an exact iOS keyboard replica on Android, but I don't think it's humanly possible. Android does do a lot of things well, but keyboards most definitely aren't one of them.

It wasn't horrible... but the iOS keyboard really did spoil me. After some fiddling it seems I will never be fully satisfied, but I am content where it stands.

The only issue i'm having now is with the browser(chrome, or stock POS) as the phone isn't registering my taps to refresh a page or press an area where i can input some text (ie. Google Search).

I'm overall very happy. The features this phone has that made me trade in my idevice completely blow away the cons... and i'm sure a bit of adjustment is necessary.

I would contemplate spending money on a keyboard as good as the one on my iphone :/

I'd also like to give HTC credit for the ease of use of their syncing application. I literally had all my goodies from my iPhone 5 synced to my HTC One within 30 minutes... it is absolutely flawless and definitely helped put me at ease in switching devices and platforms altogether!

How many Android keyboards have you tried yet? One? Well try others. Try Swiftkey for 2 days and tell us if you still prefer the iOS one...

No one will spend $50 for a virtual keyboard, especially on Android where there are countless options. I've had an iPhone before and, maybe it was because of the small screen and my big hands, but the keyboard was not what as good as what everyone was raving about.

I recommend SwiftKey - for me it's a MASSIVE improvement over the keyboard I had in iPhone 4S. The swiping and text prediction is insanely awesome 😀 Writing any text is not a "chore" anymore and it's fun to just "smear shapes" on the keyboard. When people see how I type they go "whoa, that's really cool and looks very easy!" - and it is 🙂

I would, the Keyboard's maybe the biggest thing I miss from iOS. You can say Android has countless options. But it doesn't have one I like. Call me crazy, but I'll take one app I love with zero other options than the option of 1,000 apps with none I like *shrug*

I'll give Swiftkey a shot. Is there a browser anyone would suggest over chrome?
 
Opera Mobile is good too although the new revamped version isn't as good anymore IMO.

Interestingly enough, Chrome is probably worst of the commonly-recommended Android browsers. Even Firefox Mobile is overall better. If the stock Browser is available, I'd use that.

Only difference you'll notice depends on screen size of your phone compared to the iPhone you were used to.
 
For me the problem on my Android phone is that the keyboard is very sensitive, causing mistakes. It helps to touch the keys solidly.

My partner's 3GS is much less sensitive and therefore easier to type on.

So the flow input method of SwiftKey makes things much easier as it predicts well what I'm typing (swiping) . I have to lift my giant thumb between words though. Using the space bar during the swiping caused too many mistakes.

I just downloaded dolphin and its no too bad. Its easy to use and it actually refreshes when I press the button once!

So far, I can conclude that the HTC one is vastly superior to the iPhone 5 in many ways.

Pros: 1080p screen
Great camera that I argue is better than the one I had on the iPhone
Superb build quality and durability
UI is clean and elegant
Amazing speakerphone

Cons: Keyboards on Android devices leave something to be desired (IMO)
The play store doesn't offer as good an experience as apple's app store
Lack of refinement can be really frustrating at times
Because of the scope of Android hardware, games that looked stunning on my iPhone look like utter crap.
 
Try Kii keyboard or Google keyboard. Either one might be better than Swiftkey.

Also, I highly suggest using the stock browser, it's usually the most power efficient.
