Well, i've tried three computers, nobody can see her even in the bios, she just sits there and clicks, so last ditch effort is to give her some time to cool off and think about what shes done(such a hothead she is! 7200).....anyways, wish me luck and i'll give a report in about 4 hours!

I still have a 60 GB IBM Deskstar that's running.

It's about 4 yrs. old now, & hasn't died yet.

Good luck with yours!

Deathstars cause death to others... they don't actually die themselves unless blown up by Jedi :)

I think the term for Hitachi's Deskstars should be re coined..

Isn't the freezer trick for drives that won't spin up? In which case I don't think it would help in this situation...

Freezer trick worked with my WD 80gb hard drive as well. I even put a frozen meatloaf on top to help keep it cool longer, and recovered all 60gb of data from it..

Goodluck. Hopefully, it will work long enough for you to pull your data out.

I had FIVE deskstars go bad. Tried the freezer trick with every one of them with the same results... 100% loss of data. I'm not bitter these days, but they really did have a rotten batch. It's too bad. I really liked 'em. Liked.

I tried the freezer trick on a deathstar about 2 weeks ago for a buddy. No luck either. POS hard drives! It was 120GB (Hitachi name IBM technology) for the record.

Good luck!

I have one in the family machine and that is failing. Makes a really loud whinging sound and won't transfer things to it...just glad it isn't in my machine! I've also had 4 friends IBM Deskstars die also.

Hi, Continuously clicking is a sign that the Drive can not read anything. It's recalibrating the head a retrying over and over. It probably does not spin up. Listen for the spinup or fell the drive for centrifical effect. The freezer trick is for that type of problem. Fixes it temporarily so you can get your files off of it. Do it quickly. May have to freeze again. Luck, Jim
