Type "google" and hit enter. You think it just adds the www and .com right?

Well try it with "dictionary". You don't get dictionary.com. I wonder if it knows any other words?

Firebird does not actually "know" these words. Most browsers can kind of figure it out after it cannot resolve google or dictionary.

BTW, if you like being able to get to google by typing it and then hitting a key, try google then ctrl+enter. Voila, it's the same keystrokes, same time, but NO DELAY. Now try it with dictionary, ebay, sygyzy, particleseven, and cnn

I believe firebird makes use of the "I'm Feeling Lucky" search at google if the address you've entered doesn't resolve.

I know about ctrl + enter... I just didn't know about the straight up enter feature. I'm gonna do some tests.

Bingo. It appears we have a winner.

Typing "car" and <enter> I saw the bottom of my browser say it was attempting to resolve car, and then it was connecting to google, and then it connected to caranddriver.com. A trip to google and an "I'm feeling lucky" with car in the search field brought me to the same page.

Which browsers support ctrl+enter? It must sound lame, but ctrl+enter is one of the main reason I still use IE (easy plugins / ActiveX controls is the other).

Huh, the second reason is why I avoid IE semi-religiously.

You can also type "webster *****" to use Webster's online dictionary. Again, I believe this goes through Google.

Very funny. Yeah, it can be a security risk, but some ActiveX controls are really useful.

Alt-D to highlight the address bar text, type in your site without the www and the .com, use Control-Enter - that is all I use if it isn't bookmarked!

If you haven't already, check out some of the XUL plugins available for Mozilla and Firebird. The tabextensions stuff rocks.

I posted a thread about the I'm feeling lucky thing, not worded like that, but I don't care.

Anyway, the more people who know about Firebird, the better, it's the best browser EVAR!

Opera does the same thing. Also, you can highlight a word and then search a variety of sites. Google, dictionary, encyclopedia.

" adds www. and the .com to the site.

ctrl/shirt/enter does www. and the .org to it."

I thought it did those things automatically anyway, I usually just type cnn or google then enter.
