Hahaha, dude, I think we must've been on irc together at some point, because I totally know what you're talking about.

Yeah, they're broken up by networks. Undernet and EFNet were the biggies.

yeap. usually was on efnet

Don't forget Dalnet. They were big until they changed something (can't remember what) which basically killed all activity.

they stopped allowing channels that existed for file sharing or something. lolcake.

Yeap. When we were using Novell servers (something I inherited) at the old job I hung in #novell on Efnet all damned day.

As old as IRC is, Bash.org still owns for some good humor.

<edit>
Looks like Bash.org is out a hosting company, bummer.

Wow, IRC really brings me back to the late 90's. I remember logging to Dalnet, EFNet, and a couple others just so I could wait in a queue of 100 people for mp3 files. Often the XDCC server would go down before my file was served, which meant that everyone in the queue was kicked out and had to resubmit their requests.

There are quite a few channels on irc that are still great.
Hacking discussion (hardware hacking, firmware, bios, asic)
Unfortunately I can't give them out because they are unlisted.
