ok im on a french keyboard so this is gonna take a while to type...

i just built my first comp, did everything by the manual. only problem i had was the heastink, since its an LGA775 i had to push down the little bolts and one of them went a little hard... dunno maybe not a big deal.

ok so try to boot it up, nothing.. i wait 20-30 seconds, it just shuts down.

BIGGEST PLEASE IN THE WORLD help =)

took me 15 min to write this lol

if u think it went down too hard and u crushed/cracked the cpu core i suggest u check.

also, why are u using a french keyboard, and what's the diff?

ok ill check, but isnt the LGA775 proc flat anyway? dunno

what am i looking for if i crushed it.

and french keyboards are weird, the letters are in different place. its like learning to type again for the first time

thx

k the cpu looks fine, nothing is like twited; or broken; or just different

i boot it up again and it took like 2 or 3 minutes to shut it down now; kind of weird

can any1 help me, id be willing to pay some1 via paypal to help me fix this problem. just drop ur aim or msn , im not gonna dish a lot of money tho, just like 10-20 bucks. im not mister deep pockets =[

sounds like a heat problem, sure the hsf is firmly in place and that u used thermal grease/paste or at least a pad to make contact between cpu and heat sink?

Did you apply thermal paste?...might be a heating issue...if the heatsink fan isn't installed right - many mobo's will restart the comp by itself.

Update with all the Specs of the computer. 🙂

Things to check

1 did you plug the cpu fan to to the correct plug to enable the mother board to monitor its rpm?
2. is the cpu fan spinning?
3. try disabling the FOC ( fan off control) check your manual on how to do this specially if you are using a low RPM fan
4. are you able to reach the bios?, reset the bios
5. remove everything except memory, videocard, cpu hardrive cdrom drive
6 reseat video card and ram
7 are there any beeping sounds?
8. is the floppy cable on properly (this was my first build mistake)

things to remember it takes 2-3 seconds to burn a cpu if not seated properly if you are not sure if the heatsink is seated properly dont even try to boot it up (specially Athlon CPU's)

The fact that it takes a couple of seconds 20-30 before it shuts down makes me think its a CPU problem
(overheating, wrong memory setting in the bios)

good luck

ok yea a freind of mine told me it was my heatsink, i kind of fiddled w/ and it hasnt shut down so far

but still no video

=(

also the same friend said it could be that there is an onboard video jumper or something? i cant find anything about it in the manual

if there was one, would the monitor be blank if i plugged it into my video card?

=(

Does your mobo have onboard video or are you using a video card?

make sure you firmly (not to the point of breaking) set it in the agp slot. (if it is an agp video card)

Pixle.

yea i made sure of that, the monitor blinks when it is not plugged in a comp or the comp is simply turned off. when i turn the computer on, the monitor stops blinking -- but no imange

there are no video plugins builtin my mobo, so i assume there no onboard video?

could it be an IDE problem

i have my cdrom set to master and hdd set to slave; then just an IDE cord that goes from mobo to hdd and cdrom

sorry if i sound retarded but im pretty new with cmputers =}

Try to see if it will run your hard drive startup disk or cd.

Without knowing the components of the computer you are trying to build - it's difficult to see if everything is compatible. From setting jumpers on the hdd etc..

run my hard drive startup disk ? there is no video, wouldnt it just not show up?

its a 2.8ghz
mobo is LGA775 abit
512MB RAM
60 GIG HDD
using an old video card, its like a Radeon 9000, until my 9800 comes in the mail
then just a basic CD-RW

pretty basic stuff

i kno the HDD works since i use it on my current computer, i just took it out to build this system

the one i took parts from was a 2ghz AMD pretty basid

512mb etc etc

nothing like trying to just drop in an Intel(or other ..vis versa)-based OS harddrive into an AMD(or other..vis versa) and expecting it not to screw you

fresh builds of comp parts should get fresh install of an OS ..some manage to get around this by deleting devices and such but for best performance..fresh is best..gl

Listen, to anyone that is willing to help me me on aim or MSN until i can fix this, ill pay 15 dollars through paypal. this problem is really irritating.

my aim is "nim sven"

Try unhooking everything from the MOBO except the video card. Unhook all the cdroms and the harddrives, also unplug all fans except the cpu fan. I have seen this happen before and had to unhook everything. Then after the first boot I hooked everything else back up and it worked perfect. Then one day i cleaned the HSF out as the temps were starting to come up on the pc. When i reinstalled the Cpu I had to do the same procedure to get it to boot. Its along shot but give it a try.
