I just bought this from Best Buy....

Mobile Surge Protector

It is for a new Dell notebook for my girlfriend. There is no "lifetime warranty" or "$50,000 Guarantee" or joule rating or anything. But I feel it has to be better than nothing right? If I get tsomething bigger, my girlfriend is not very likely to take it with her and use it, so it is pointless anyway, which is why I bought this one. It goes in between the AC power cord and the charging brick.

WILL THIS THING HELP AT ALL IN?! Can I please get some opinion on this product?

Thanks guys!

EDIT: It says this, but I don't know what it means:

230V voltage rating; 2.5 amp maximum current rating; 2.5kA maximum current surge handling

Worldwide voltage compatible (110V - 230V); automatic reset after transient has passed

For 20 bucks who cares if it works.. as it does all the following:

a) will make your girlfriend happy you bought her something
b) will make her feel her laptop is a little more safe
c) isn't your laptop

gm

Well actually all those things are not exactly true:

a)THis is going along with the laptop itself which she is getting for christmas, so it is not like she will care about this little thing
b)I need to know/feel it is safe, as I am the one that paid for the laptop
c)we will be living together soon, so it will be both of ours soon enough 😉

If it does do anything at all, by the ratings on the targus website it would protect against maybe 3 small spikes before you'd need to buy a new one. Keeping in mind that turning on a tv on the same circuit/fridge turning on/etc may very well set it off. Personally I don't think it's worth the money, don't most laptops filter through their battery anyways?

It's better than nothing, that's for sure. Just exactly how much better than nothing though........

Is that true? Do laptops have "built in" surge protects?

If it doesn't carry a guarantee then what's the point? If your laptop breaks anyway, it's a waste of money. If your laptop breaks and you have one with a guarantee you'll get a replacement.

They might not put a guarantee on it because they are not confident their product works.
