Same here...

Also this model has 2 VGA and 1 DVI input. Not like I'd ever use that.

Oldfart, How ya doing? What did you end up paying for that one (curious, friend is looking)?

Doing well, thanks 🙂 I paid $473 with free shipping. I wanted the black one and Newegg was OOS on it, so I got it elsewhere. Newegg has the white one for $455 w/free ship. They are still OOS of the black one.

hehe, i got the same graphics card. did you buy your pc from PC world?

I just got a 1760NX. Very nice LCD. I'm very happy with it.

Oldfart I was thinking of buying that model if I went 17",I`m glad you like it.At the moment I can`t make my mind up between that and the 19" Samsung 191T/192T models,I know it has 16ms rather then 25ms like on the Samsung models, anyway I play a lot of slow type RPG games, like BG2,Gothic 2 etc with occasional CS,DoD,TFC online and just don`t know if I will be happy with the performance of the Samsung`s in gaming.

The funny thing is I`ve the cash ready but can`t make my mind up 😕 .

No. My system is basically a Fujitsu-Siemens Scaleo. It had a very good price when I bought it, that was the reason for buying it instead of putting my own together. I have since put a 7200rpm disk in it, added more ram, and moved the whole thing into an Antec Sonata. But I need a new videocard when I buy the lcd, I don't think it can cope with 1280x1024. The only positive thing about, is the fact that there is no cooler. So I'm looking at either a R9600 Pro/NonPro with no fans, or a R9700 with Zalman ZHP-80A heatsink. Preferably the R9600 NonPro when they (Sapphire and the others) decides to market it.

I take it PC World is some local London dealer.

Yeah...family pc's, bad components.

Been around reading and writing to find out WHAT display 2 buy. Now I considering either a budget-way or the more exclusive-way. The budget alternative is the NEC LCD1760 (1701 here in sweden) which seems to be a reaaly great product. According to some people THE DVI interface on 1760NX doesnt really give that much so the 1760V might be a better choice. BUT then me more expensive chice is the VP171b which I can get for appr 120USD (1000SEK) more tha 1760V. SO my qustion is: IS THE VP!/!B REEAALLLY WORTH 120 BUCKS MORE?????? Ii it really SOO much better? I know it has alot more features....

(so a little bump to get this quston out of my head;-)

JvD,

I am in the same situation as you, and I am in Denmark so the prices should be comparable. You can read my previous posts in this thread and find some answers.

Geizhals is a german price comparison site. You can find the NEC 1760NX for ?450.

But it's really up to you. Are you willing to pay the extra $100 for the VP171. I think I am.

Here is another thread where a couple of guys bought the VP171.

How much do the NEC 1760 NX, 1701, and the Viewsonic VP171 cost in Sweden, please list in swedish kroners.

OK, here we GO!

Viewsonic VP171b: 5738SEK
Nec LCD1760NX: 5474SEK
Nec LCD 1701 (aka 1760V): 4854
Samsung 172T: 6529SEK.

What do U say about these prices? Are the VP171b really woth the bucks?

Prices are the same as here. But it is up to you. If you don't need pivot, you think they both have good design, and you can live without the dvi, then you might aswell take the NEC.

But the VP171b DO look cool with those thin edges. I have to think 4 a while (AGAIN!) I was planning to shop this week.

Plus the nec doesnt have an anti glare screen...so if you use a desk lamp or sit near a window, could be problems.

OK, so for "anti glare" and pivot-funktion, Ill be paying 1000SEK (appr 120USD) extra. Its a 120GB HDD extra for that money. Yeah, this is a tough one. I might skip the lunch for a couple of days and invest in the Viewsonic....

I dont know what this "anti glare" thing is about (marketing??) I dont have ANY glare issues with my 1760NX, nor does my buddy that has one. I do like the vertical pivot feature of the Viewsonic, but I would not worry about any anti glare issue that does not exist.

ive got the vp171b. no glare issue. i really like the monitor but it has one green pixel which is annonying.

Okay it's been almost a week since I've gotten the monitor. I've played UT2003, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Return to Castle Wolfenstein Enemy Teritory, Battlefield 1942 (Desert Combat v.38d) and IL2 Forgotten Battles. All at 1280x1024 (one had to run at 1280x960, but didn't see any difference) without any ghosting. When Playing RTCW it was really dark. I thought...NO this can't be right. I adjusted the monitor, but no difference. Here it turned out to be something in game. Once I adjusted it ...NICE! I can't say I have any regrets or if the monitor has any down falls...well except it's price. If I could do it again I would go for the 19" with the 25ms responce time. Everything else matches the 17" model. Even if I were to see minor ghosting on the 19 or higher, who cares because this design is so awesome. A+ for these Viewsonic Video Professional Models.

Pros
-No glare (desk lamp, two windows)
-Bright (almost to bright)
-Nice Colors
-Features (3 inputs, pivot, up-down 4 1/2 inch, wallmount, daisy chain, etc.)
-Got it at a good price
-No ghosting

Cons
-Price (if you can't find it on sale or other)

Conclusion
I love my LCD, just wish it was bigger and higher resolutions. My ti4200 works great hooked up to this monitor through the DVI running all games at 1280x1024x32 (no AS or AA) and max game details.

tell me what you want me to run or show on this monitor and I'll post.

YEAH! Ican understand (and i know) that the VP171b _IS_ superior to the LCD1760v (1701) BUT THE QUESTION IS IF ITS WOTH THE 120 EXTRA BUCKS? It might just bu so, I am leaning towards the viewsonic right now, even though it exeds my planned budget :-(

I would only compare this monitor to the Planar and if it was $120 less then yes I would get the Planar. However it's not, so to answer your question, (IMO) YES it's worth the extra $ !

Supposedly you can get BF1942 to in 1280x1024. Read here. Dont know if it works though.

Great review sep. Nice of you to come back after a week.

The only reason I would spend the extra $120 is if you MUST have the vertical pivot. If you dont need it, save the $ and get the NEC. When I was looking, the Viewsonic, NEC and Hitachi CML174 were the models I considered. I couldn't see spending the extra $$ on the 171B. The Hitachi cant (easily) switch between two inputs , which killed it for me. The 1760NX is awesome. Me and my buddy are both happy with them. No dead pixels, great display, no glare. The monitor adjustment software is also pretty cool. You do it from Windows and dont even need to use the buttons on the front.

OK! I bought the Viewsonic VP171B, I trust U guys. I just couldnt resist the pressure ;-) Ill come back and give U my opinion. I also bougt a cheep BenQ 17 inch LCD for 3999SEK (500USD) for another rig I am building 2 another person.

They are not the same monitors. True they share a common part but that does not mean the quality is all the same. Many products share parts like that. Most digital cameras use the same sensors. But the quality of the camera is affected by build, electronics, firmware, lens, etc. All PCs using the same CPU and motherboards with the same chipsets are not the same. More goes into the final product than just one part. So even if a bunch of monitors share a common panel, they are certainly not the same.

Agreed. But...when we talk about all these 16ms monitors, I do believe they are more or less the same. Meaning that I doubt anyone can see any differences in picture quality between the Hitachi CML174 and NEC1760NX (just to name two, and off course both using the same type of connection).

See Kubickis comments
here and here. This sounds to me like they are pretty much the same.

If I am wrong, I would love to be corrected.

 Good choice! I don't think you'll be disapointed.
