I personally use Grabit Its Free and KicksARSE.

I've used alot of programs for usenet but this is the best IMHO and its FREE!!

I've downloaded well over 300GB with Newsbin and have never had a problem.
 
I use shareware all the time. Shareware of a different type, that is, where the author of the progrqam shares the source code. And it I like th eprogram, I support the project ; donations or otherwise...
