I just bought my first laptop.

Never had one before😱

Hp 2730p

edit:

I've always depended on smartphones and public computers but limitations are a big PITA. I never wanted to buy a laptop until the tablet pc form factor was perfected. This, by most accounts, seems to be the one.

update:

This laptop is FANTASTIC😀

Windows 7, with a little nudge here in there, is working flawlessly. Currently the only thing not working in Windows 7 is the webcam. I have the whole TPM/BMR/BitLocker thing going on with fantastic results😀 As for upgrades I am at 3GB and will finish the upgrade to 4GB of Ram... 8GB when 4GB sodimms are affordable😀

Using OneNote for taking notes is FANTASTIC. The fact that the battery is lasting me more than 4 hours is grin-inducing.😀

😀

Laptops rock.😎

Losing my job was rather traumatic and I was trying to make sure that any wayward financial commitments wouldn't bite me in the ass later. I also had additional personal commitments that I had expected to, and did, gobble up my last paycheck so I was broke. There was a lot of uncertainty surrounding my severance and unemployment insurance so at the time I needed to clamp down and it helped a lot.

So buying a brand new $1000 notebook while unemployed makes sense to you after crying about your cable bill? Wouldn't a used notebook for $200 off the FS/FT forums work just as well? You would even help out a fellow ATer instead of being ridiculed.

The lenovo was nice but it was going to be too much money. Since both the x200 and 2730p's were so similar the 2730p won out.

get the notepad version for cheap

Well obviously we don't know what sort of situation you're in or how a laptop is so critical to your productivity. But I think most of us would think it's a pretty irresponsible purchase as long as you still had a working desktop.

I can understand why people would think as such but there are a variety of other factors.
I just wanted to share my joy at finally being able to get one when I need it most but I guess I was wrong to be happy on here😛
