I just bought a Vizio TV.

I'm still watching a 60" projection i bought off of craigslist for 75 bucks. I've had Vizio before and they are top notch

I have a 27" Westinghouse LCD.. looks good and the price was right.

But hey, they invented electricity so I figure getting a TV to work right is a piece of cake...

I have a 42" Westy, flawlessly running for almost two years, and the picture is just as good as most other 42" LCD's I have seen, bar the 5 grand ones

I think it's like those UTZ potato chips here in NYC. At first they were considered bootleg, but they were cheaper than Doritos and tasted just as good. After a while they lost the "bootleg" air surrounding them.

I guess its the same for Vizio now. lol

Utz is one of the oldest snack-chip makers in the US and currently the largest independent snack-food manufacturer.

On the TV side, I just bought a 42" 1080p Insignia brand LCD from BB.

Looks pretty nice for $800. It's not the main TV in the house and will only be used occasionally in the bedroom.

Picture is nice, but the sound volume isn't the greatest.

Vizios are huge in asia and europe, so it was only a matter of time before they become integrated into the brand-conscious crowd here. Probably their main weakness was the fact that they were distributed at Costco, which limited their markup to 10%, so this gave the impression that they were merely only a 'cheap' off-brand. Many of the same people who bash Vizio are the same people that think Bose is great. Added to that, only the cheaper vizio lines have made it to American soil while the best stayed in Asia.

You're cool. Vizio is a startup, so they bring last geration's TV tech to you at a really cheap price.

People used to say the same thing about comptuer stuff from Linksys and DLink.

I  my Vizio. Everything looks great on it...to me anyways.

I also  UTZ. I cannot get enough of their Red Hot chips.

I have a 50" 720P plasma I bought last spring with my stimulus check and have been very happy with it. It may not have the best picture but then again a comparable name brand set would have been 30% more at the time. For the money spent I am very satisfied.

I have a cheap toshiba 40" 1080p that I just bought and I love the picture on it. It looked just as good in the store as the samsungs, the toshiba regzas, and the sonys. The only tv that really blew it out of the water was the 60" Kuro that was about 6 times the price.

For some reason I didn't really trust the vizio or dynex brands, so I went with this one and have been happy. I did a price match thing so it ended up being only slightly more expensive than a vizio anyways.

At least I hear Vizio is a the top of the bootleg LCD manufacturer chain?

Yup, a well polished turd.

If it works for ya - more power! My friend picked up one of their 42" plasmas about a year ago and it still works for him.

One thing I really don't like is how saturated the colors are by default - its terrible to my eyes, but he loves it.

lolol, I said I liked the TV a lot, I am not bashing them at all. It took some tweaking, but the picture is actually as good as any other LCD I have seen.

Anyone knows of any freeware TV calibration videos out in the wild?

What are you insane? UTZ is the shit, never once considered them off brand.

Not all HDTV snobs talk Vizio down, there's been lots of talk about their 55" XVT line at Costco on the AVS forums:

I'm trying to hold off upgrading until I see how the VF551XVT reviews pan out if it's released this June as anticipated.
