Theres problems all over the place :|:|

99 Honda Civic LX SE

Just bought it for $6450. A dealer is supposed to give you a 1 month 1800 KM warranty, right? So far this is whats wrong with the car:

-Check engine light went on today
-Little lights for the buttons are not working properly
-Anti-theft is not working at all
-wipers dont wipe properly
-theres a piece of metal or something that makes a weird noise when shifting from first to second
-no prestone in the radiator (the rad itself was less than half full) (the car went through 2 inspections)
-windows dont roll down properly
-door locks dont always work
-doors make really loud squeaking noise when opening and closing
-timing belt has to be changed around 100 clicks and im at 103

and a bunch more little things like this.

Should the warranty cover all this? I dont want to pay for all these repairs, i just got the car less than a week ago!

Does the dealer have to fix this? shouldnt they sell a car in good working order?

Thanks for all responses.
Carl

Arent there "lemon" laws in most states where you can return the car for a refund?

Hrmm...did you test drive the car at all before buying? Seems like most of these problems would've been pretty evident before buying.

As is, you might be protected by some kind of anti-lemon law. Or if, as you say, your dealer has a warranty (not all do), again, you might be covered.

All these problems started after i bought it though, and i needed the car like, right away. Didnt have much time to test everything out.

I live in QC, Canada, never heard of an "Anti-Lemon" law. Anyone know if the law is applicable round here?

Thanks

Lots of time, they sell it with a big "as is" tag, and if it had one of those, then sorry my friend, but you're SOL.

You could have bought my car (see sig) for just little more.

I wish people would find out what the "lemon" law really is before they mention it.

the lemon law is to cover NEW vehicles (some states have used laws but not many). If you don't take a car in to be checked BEFORE you buy it then i really cant sympathize for you.

But if it was me i would document everything and try to get them to pay for it. IF they don't then maybe contacting the local papers and let them know. they love to nail a car dealer if they can.

They aren't required to give you any kind of warranty. Did you buy it "As Is"?
It's expensive and a crap shoot but I always but an extended warranty on used vehicles from dealers.

Well, the use the warranty that they gave you and make them fix all that are broken. If the same problems occured, and even it's after the warranted period, they are obligated to fix your car, because the items were under warranty when they tinker with it.

Well then why don't you read your warranty paperwork?? :frown:

Here in the states, you'd pretty much be out of luck on almost all of those issues...

Unless thats company policy then No they dont.

used cars are sold AS IS. Unless it still has the factory waranty. But i know a few Used car dealerships that have a short warranty on them. Unless the car is like 10 years old with over 100k miles.

Check the window sticker on your car. Typically in my experience dealers don't give any warranty on used cars unless it's still under factory warranty.

I don't know what's worse - that you bought a car without test driving it, or that you just didn't notice any of that during your test drive.

-Check engine light went on today (TODAY, i couldnt tell back then!)
-Little lights for the buttons are not working properly (you cant see that during the day)
-Anti-theft is not working at all (never noticed that it had it because the light didnt flash lol)
-wipers dont wipe properly (it wasnt raining, lol)
-theres a piece of metal or something that makes a weird noise when shifting from first to second (just started)
-no prestone in the radiator (the rad itself was less than half full) (the car went through 2 inspections) ( didnt look at all the levels till i got home)
-windows dont roll down properly (i didnt open them till i went for drive through)
-door locks dont always work (they worked when i went to try it out, but only some times they dont work properly)
-doors make really loud squeaking noise when opening and closing (only the right back, never opened that door when i tried it, my bad)
-timing belt has to be changed around 100 clicks and im at 103 (they said they wont change it, because its a "defect" with the hondas or something.)

If they gave me a warranty for 1 month, and didnt specify if it was only for the engine etc, are they obliged to fix everything? (They wrote on paper that i have a 1 month warranty)

IF you have it on writing that you have a 1 month warranty then it would be worth it to fight them.

But i thought EVERYONE knew that when you buy a used car it was AS IS!

you made a few mistakes. the big one was NOT getting the car checked out before you bought it.

Word. Last time I checked, used car dealers weren't known for their honesty.

I disagree with that. i know a few used car dealers that are honest.

Granted if i were to buy a used car on a large new/used car lot i would have a harder time trusting the salesman. But on small used car lots they usually are honest. Word of mouth can can hurt the dealer really bad.

Edit: BUT ALWAYS GET EVERTHING IN WRITING!
