I just bought a Samsung 193p

I have been looking for a 19" LCD that is capable of playing games for months, and I figured I would try out the 193P tonight and see what happens.

My current LCD is the NEC LCD1765 which has great color reproduction and plays first person shooters flawlessly.

The problem I have with the 193P is that the motion blur in Half Life 2 and World of Warcraft is just brutal.

Does anybody else have this monitor and have the same problems?

I am using it in DVI mode, with a GeForce 6800GT, AMD 3400 CPU set up.

The Anandtech review said they liked playing games on it. I am hoping there is something I havn't set right, because this isn't "good" for games at this point...

I gave that a shot to no avail 🙁

Im hoping perhaps some setting will fix it. It has good picture quality and I love the size so I don't really want to return it, however I was hoping for at least graphical performance on par with my older NEC for games...

??? That is simply amazing. Maybe you got a lemon panel, but I'm here with a 25ms Samsung (910T), and there is hardly any blurring in HL2.

The primary selling point of the 193P was 20ms with the brightness of the 910~ panel. I don't know about the newer 12ms 19" panels, or any of the 16ms/12ms 17" panels.

That was my first choice when I decided to get a second monitor to accompany my NEC/Mitsubishi 930SB 19" CRT. But when I got hold of a coupon to purchase a Dell 2005FPW 20" LCD for the same price as the Samsung, I jumped at the opportunity. There has been some issues the Dell that has come up but I wanted to go for it. Worse case scenario is that there is a problem and I would have to RMA it or get a refund. I'm gambling that I will be one of many that has enjoyed the Dell LCD since taking the plunge...

Good luck in getting things sorted out.

I've decided to take this monitor back later today or tomorrow.

For the record, I do not recomend this monitor for people who enjoy playing games.
It ghosts/motion blurs.

So far, I have not found a 19" monitor worth buying, but I have tried a few good 17" monitors.

The NEC LCD1765 is excellent for games and so is the Samsgun 172x.

Not going to try another one? It is a beautiful monitor.

Mithan:

You realize there are (or is one) 12ms 19" panel? Or perhaps you are particularly sensitive to motion blurring.

I have this monitor and experience zero motion blur at all, in fact, this is the best LCD I have ever used. I moved up from a Samsung 181T and this monitor totally eclipses my old one in every way. I would say you might have gotten a bad panel, but you will be hard pressed to find a 19" LCD with the color accuracy of the 193P and the ability to play games!

My understanding is that all LCD's ghost to some extent, it's a matter of degree. Some people notice the ghosting with LCD's, some don't. It's a very subjective thing.

Thats interesting. If you got bluring in UT2k4 thats one thing, but HL2? I have the old 213T with 25ms and HL2 gave me no problems while UT2k4 was more of a problem. Perhaps trade the panel in?

Can a panel display everything correctly and work fine, however have a problem with one aspect that makes it ghost?

Ie- something being defective that only causes motion blur?

Doubtful, but I guess it's possible.

I would still try another one. It is a wonderful screen.

I just got my 193p and I am satisfied. Ive been gaming with doom3 and eq2. Reguarding ghosting/motion blur I would agree that it probably bothers some people more than others. I can say that the blur on this screen is significantly less noticable than other 25ms displays Ive seen. If you are looking for it, you will notice it and it will probably bother you. One thing I really like about this screen is the contrast is so good that shadows in games take on a new realism, and you can play with low gamma settings and see things pretty clearly in darker places. Color seems about on par with CRT. To me the trade-off of some motion blur for better contrast when compared to my CRT leaves me feeling like I broke even when it comes to picture quality.
