Here's what I'm worried about. I bought the Radeon X1900XT off of newegg 2 days ago. I'm wanting the thing to last for 3 years. The heat worries me, though. I'm worried that the X1900XT will die on me due to the heat it produces and I want some assurance that it won't and I don't like the Idea of buying aftermarket heatsinks. I bought a case with 2 120mm fans that do 110CFM airflow. Will that keep my X1900XT cool or am I screwed?

110 cfm fans? wtf that's huge. If it fries you can RMA it. They make sure the cooling device can do the job. If it is manufactured with a defect RMA it. Check the temps now. You seem waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to worried -_-

With that much airflow, your machine will last quite a while.

I would be more worried abotu death by dust than heat.

It's not here yet. It's still being shipped. :) So when I get it, will the heat kill my X1900XT?

So you think My soon-to-be X1900XT will be able to survive the heat, since they're reported to heat up to pretty high temperatures and that scares the crap out of me because I know that heat is the arch enemy of silicon chips, and I don't want to have to worry about my X1900XT going out due to heat.

Would I be OK if I left my computer on 24/7 with an X1900XT in the computer?

heat is linear, voltage damages much faster. if just in 2d I think it would be find to leave it on all day and night. The X1900XT's are hot. But they aren't hot enough to fry themselves so that you need aftermarket cooling.

So, heat does way less damage than I think, right? It's the voltage that kills a majority of video cards killed, huh?

The X1900XT and XTX do run hot. However ATI would not release a card where there is a significant chance of thermal death with the stock cooling system. There are no reports of people having thier X1900XT or XTX die of thermal issues, there's thermal throttling built into the card and if you're not modding it or overclocking it then even if it does die it'll be covered by the warranty.

Short version is, don't worry about it, they are designed to run hot.

Yes. Vid cards these days last around three days, then you need to buy a new one.

QFT. Video cards dying in 3 days isn't true, or people wouldn't even buy them.

So you guys think I'm gonna be OK with my X1900XT and am not gonna have to RMA it or be out of $500 for nothing?

Thanks for the help, guys.

You are worrying FAR too much about heat. Your Radeon X1900XT has a cooler on it that is designed to handle any and all heat that the gpu produces. Video cards are designed to be able to run at their maximum potential for an unlimited period of time with the stock cooler and still live many years. I would honestly NOT worry about it. With as much airflow as you have in your machine,(2x110cfm, which is GIGANTIC by the way) I would not hesitate to leave it running a game for months straight if there was ever a reason to.

You are over reacting. Kick back, relax, your getting an X1900XT. Think of the games. Do not worry about the hardware.

shouldn't have to worry about it unless you are going to OC...
if it fry within warrenty, you can always RMA it. In most cases, if it doesn't fry within warrenty, then you can rest assure it'll never fry on you.

OMG, BUY AFTERMARKET COOLING NOW BEFORE YOUR CARD GETS SO HOT THAT A PROTON-PROTON CHAIN REACTION OCCURS AND NUCLEAR FUSION STARTS INSIDE YOUR COMPUTER AND YOUR BRAND NEW VIDEO CARD EXPLODES.

Sheesh man you worry WAY too much. Heat will definitely not be a problem for you becuase the stock cooler exhausts the air outside the cade.

Video cards always run in "idle" mode in 2D mode, so it will stay quite cool running 24/7. When it does get hot, the heat wil blow out the back of the case. The stock heatsink and fan is meant to handle to video card running in a hot case and usually there is a built-in head-room for overclocking. Things will be OK.

Sometimes I get lazy in the summers and don't clean the dust off the cpu heatsink. My P4 2.6@3.2ghz (stock voltage 1.44 overclocked to 1.625volts) can get as high as 65*C. I think people freak out about any temperatures above 40*C on these forums. Videocards can actually handle heat much better than cpus. As far as overvolting, it's also not as dangerous unless you crank it beyond 15% on a component. Just check every 6 months or so if any dust got inside the fan and clean it if necessary. But as far as heat itself is concerned, it'll be highly unlikely that heat will destroy a gpu unless it catches on fire :)

yeah my comp is on 24/7 and my x1900xt isn't dead yet or if it does i will just rma it. :! if your that worried about heat :! go water cooling or a decent aftermath cooler. just don't buy
Arctic Cooling Accelero X2 its bad :!

I am going to stick with stock cooling. I don't like watercooling because it could leak and nuke your whole system.
