Hey folks.

Apparently, I hurt my back some how.

On my spine, there is this lump that hurts like hell when pressure is applied to it. It hurts for me to sit in certain positions, and it hurts when I lean over. It feels like a bruise, but I'm not sure.

Going to anything but the walk-in clinic is my last resort, doctors are super expensive, and quite frankly I hate doctors anyway.

My supervisor said it sounded like a "stone bruise", whatever that may be.

Any thoughts?

The spine is the motherboard of your body. If it goes bad, your body cannot function. Don't mess around with spine injuries. If it hurts like hell when you move/bend/breathe, your body is trying to tell you something. Pain means that something is wrong. Go to the doctor, you backwoods hick. ;) They don't use leeches anymore. ;)

Could be you tore some cartilage, or damaged the bone. You could even have knocked a spinal disc out of alignment. Only way to know for sure is by seeing a doctor.

Sounds like your back is out to me. You can try taking some ibuprofen/naproxen sodium/whatever and see if it'll relax back by itself after a day or two. Or go see an osteopath who'll put you back in one piece (if it's out) and give you some pain meds if you need them. Or see a chiropractor who can't prescribe anything.

I need an Oesteopath. I see a Chiro and he helps a LOT, but some drugz would be nice for those "off days."

I don't think I'd personally bother with a chiropractor. If I really need my back worked on, it's because I'm in PAIN. Nice to have a little something to help with that while my back is healing. I'm also comforted by the fact that osteopaths have more conventional medical training.

Is the pain only in your back. It doesn't feel like it's showing up some place else, like in your legs?

Pinched nerves are no fun.

I've been dealing with back problems for a few years now. I have a few bulging disks in my lower back. The lump you are feeling MIGHT be a disk bulging out. If it's that bad, you need to have it looked at ASAP.

I was very skeptical of chiropractors. I went to a doctor first. He gave me pain killers and muscle relaxers. This helps in the short run, but it won't fix the problem. I then tried physical therapy. They taught me how to strengthen my back muscles so there is less pressure on the spine and disks, but still no direct back work.

Finally, a month ago, I gave in and tried a chiropractor. I wish I would have done that first. I've noticed a huge improvement in the first month of seeing him.

If you get it checked and it is a disk problem... you need to lie down or walk... no sitting, for a few months. You also need to make sure you stand and sit with correct posture. Bad posture will make things much worse. Do not do any lifting while it's healing and, afterwards, lift only when you must and do so properly.

Good luck. Don't mess around with this. If it's a disk bulging, you need to get it healing ASAP. If it continues to be irritated, it could rupture and then you have no choice other than surgery.

If you find out it is a disk problem and you want more information, feel free to PM me.

Well, my lower back and hips hurt, really, my whole back has always hurt. This is just a different kind. It feels like someone hit me in the spine with a thin pipe or something.

Laying on my stomach gets rid of the pain.

You really should go see a doctor or osteopath. The improvement in your quality of life will be worth the money.

Have you been doing heavy lifting?

Not really. I went to the amusement park yesterday.

There are two things there I can think of. I got pushed back against a bar, I'm not sure if it's the right height, and our roller coaster got jarred for some reason. That kind of hurt, but the pain didn't show up en masse until today. My back has been kind of tight all weekend.

Go see a doctor. It can be a number of things (slip disk, pinched nerve, etc) that can't be easily self-diagnosed.

Well, my aunt came home and said it may be a pinched nerve. I took some pain killers and out until about 30 minutes ago.

She put some stuff on it and if it still hurts tomorrow, I'm going to the clinic.

I've been banged up before. The pain doesn't really bother me. It's where the pain is. I'm not taking chances when it comes to my back and spine.
