I hope Ubisoft explode. They are killing PC gaming.

My issues with Splinter: Cell Chaos Theory: Long story short, the game came with 2 CD keys and none of those worked. I had bought two copies of the game, one for my bro and one for myself so that we could play online. I tried FOUR keys and the game wouldn't install! Finally I found one online that worked and the game did install. However Starforce then chose to weave its magic. It basically said it wanted to verify that my CDs were legit and started a lengthy scan of my Splinter Cell DVD... that took twenty minutes to reach HALF!!!!!

So I got really ticked. It had taken an hour before those twenty minutes to find a cd key that allowed an install in the first place. Anyway I found that after patching to 1.05 you could crack the game and remove the starforce filth, which I did.

After that the game ran beautifully and looked gorgeous for a game so old.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Then there was Rainbow Six: Vegas. The game runs fine on my 8800GTX 768, but only when I have shadows at half. Others aren't so lucky, as you can see here:

http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/frm/f/3801065024

On lower rigs the game runs poorly, and I really feel for those guys who paid good money for the game. Then there is the multiplayer... it is freakin' broken!!! You can't really play online without encountering numerous showstopping bugs, and the interface has tremendous problems and is incomplete. HELL YOU CAN'T EVEN SEE A SERVER'S PING!

The people on the forums have been crying for a patch, and I really feel sorry for the moderators who have been hung out to dry. Ubisoft has just dropped support for the game, and it is incredible! :(

I feel so cheated, because I really wanted to enjoy multiplayer.

Furthermore they are releasing a big map pack for the R6 Xbox360 version, but not the PC! That's bullshit.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Finally I come to Splinter Cell: Double Agent... the situation is so sad, that I want to scream. I paid good money for this game, and I have the latest patch installed, but my game's character models are SCRAMBLED! Furthermore shadows are totally screwed up.

Some guy is having the same issues on Vista, and I encourage you to click the link to see the screenies:

http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=132228

The thing is... I am using XP damnit! I can't see my game's characters. I've even tried a gazillion drivers, but to no avail.

Also Chaos Theory was really polished. This game looks like it was a straight port, and the menu is worse in Double Agent than its prequel Chaos Theory. HOW IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE? Firstly in Chaos Theory there was native support for my monitor's rez, 1680x1050. Not so in Double Agent! How is it that a game like Chaos Theory was released at a time when widescreens were rare managed to support them completely in terms of all possible sizes, while Double Agent can NOT? That's ridiculous.

Chaos Theory allowed me to quick load from anywhere in the menu. Double Agent refuses, and asks you to go into several sub menus to even quick load! If you want to quit the game, you have to EXIT to the MENU where you MUST WATCH A 2 minute @$@!#%#!@% FMV BEFORE YOU CAN QUIT to WINDOWS!!!!

W T F is THAT????

The fact is that I don't live in Canada anymore, but live in Pakistan. Here it is really easy to find pirated crap, but I choose to buy genuine games because that's the way I was brought up. I buy at least 5 games a month, and they are all genuine games. It is a pain in the ass to get them to Pakistan, but I manage past the extra charges, the shipping, the taxes, the waiting... all of that... ALL OF that... because piracy is obviously wrong.

But you know what, screw Ubisoft. I am tired of this crap. They haven't patched Double Agent in so long, that it is obvious they've dropped support for the game. How the hell could they do that and live with themselves?

P.S.

I haven't even mentioned the hell that was Dark Messiah.

edit:

Game is working perfectly OK now. No more audio problems. I think the audio problems may have been because of a bad install or something, because I reinstalled and they are gone.

The visual corruption is no more thanks to the -LL.

edit 2:

I ran into a new bug. Whenever I quickload for some reason the frames lock at 25FPS! However if I hit reload again then it is back to normal...

With my rig on everything max I am getting 45+ fps which isn't too bad. I am really enjoying the game now, and I like the tension and all. Pretty cool, which makes the bugs even more shameful.

What does that do anyway? Anyway I am happy... but it tooks me a few hours to be happy.

For DA, create a shortcut directly to the SP exe file. in the shortcut, at the end of the field, put in an -LL and see if that fixes it.

All your points are valid except the Rainbow 6 map pack one, because I doubt any PC'ers would pay for a map pack. So it's not totally unjustified that it's not released for the PC.

The last good publisher died with Interplay, at best we can hope for online distribution and Atari to go away, EA should buy them... match made in heaven or hell......

F UBisoft.

They F'd up the Rainbow six and Ghost Recon franchise for PC.

They sold out to the console.

Have any of you played Rainbow six 3: Raven Shield on PC? That game is a complete joke!

Just to give you an idea. When I would tell my squad to open, bang, and clear (a very easy command that the AI should have no problem). They all line up right in front of the door, swing the door wide open, switch to the flashbang (which takes 2-3 seconds), and then throw the flashbang (that is, if no perps don't kill them while they switch to the bangs). They get flashed and then rush in (the animation shows them getting blinded) and any perps that don't get flashed kill them. What a joke!

PC Gamers made the first Ghost Recon strong with all the mods and support from players. UBi was planning on making Ghost Recon 2 for the PC, but said screw it and cancelled it. So now we have GR advanced warfighter.

I will not touch a UBI product unless they come through with something spectacular.

Lol, yeah, I played it. That was pretty lame. They should have like...learned against the wall and then open the door a bit and tossed a bang in the opening and then rushed in! :|

Kidding, of course! (Yes, I understand that Ubisoft is a company and not a real human being so therefore, I can't use the word "kill")

Yeah, Ubisoft is a joke these days. They're far worse than EA or any publisher in my book.

I still want to try out Double Agent at some point though, because of how good the last game was (leaving aside Starforce). I'll have to run it at 640x480 to get a decent framerate, but what the heck. I think DA was actually made by a different developer team than CT, which would explain many of the problems.

A game that I missed in my rant is Dark Messiah. I had no issues with it, but I was playing ver 1.12 from the start. Apparently it was unplayable early on.

I was very disappointed in R6V for the PC as well. I bought it after getting tired of playing R6V on my XBOX 360 with a controller... you know, just hoping that I would have a better time on my PC. Nope... NOT AT ALL. Originally, the game didn't even allow you to change the resolution! They had to PATCH THAT IN. The game was most certainly a half-assed port, which is quite evident at the PC-esque features that had to be added in later that aren't necessary on the console (resolution for example... XBOX 360 itself controls the resolution).

DAMN IT!

So thanks to the dude at Anandtech, I found a way to stop the graphical glitch by running an edited version of the shortcut to the game's exe. But I am getting no SOUND EFFECTS! It keeps coming and going! I tried running the game without the edited shortcut and still have the same stupid problem which leaves the game unplayable. So I thought... maybe the game has an issue with my Creative Soundblaster.

So I uninstalled the card, and used my Asus mobo's sound option and I am getting the same problem. So basically I spent half an hour on my sound card for nothing. And I've already spent good money on the game.

This is too much.

Ubisoft are nothing better than common criminals.

Crap like this is why I'm a primarily console gamer now. I dont feel like worrying about patches, incompatibilities and other things. Gimme a unified hardware package, unified online experience, and let me play.

XBOX 360 games get patches :p. Amusingly enough, this is even after Microsoft told them not to patch games via Live!

Wow!
This will make me sound like an ass but everything you just said was completely wrong.
You DO have to worry about patches and the only way to avoid incompatibilities is to have one of every system. Consoles no longer have a true unified package anymore, and they still dont have a real unified online experience.

Its all just a giant mess, but since the colors are all shiny and pretty nobody seems to notice.
(Theres room here for a political joke but I cant seem to find it.)

silent hunter 4 on release didn't even have support for resolutions above 1024x768, and no anti-aliasing (not even forced thru drivers). UBI is horrible when it comes to releasing pre-beta builds to retail.

You know what? I tried the game on the friend's 360. While it doesn't perform nearly as bad, it lags a bit on that as well... The visuals aren't that good to justify the lag.

You are an ass, but at least you pointed that out first. How is my personal opinion completely wrong? Xbox Live is about as unified as you can get while still allowing developers freedom. A console is (for the most part) a unified hardware design where you know a game will run and will not have to worry if your sound card or video card can handle it.

Patches on the 360 take literally seconds to download (you dont have to hunt for them and wait in queues) and most of the time are just minimal tweaks to fix online performance issues, or heaven forbid actually add new functionality (see the Crackdown title update coming out today)

In general, its a lot less mess, maintenance and money to game on a console... even if you pick the PS3.

The worst of it is that I have spent as much time trying to get past the shoddy interface as I have trying to play. Here are some things that are really annoying me:

1. When you quit to the main menu you can't access any options without watching a mandatory 30 second retarded FMV that can't be skipped. If you hit the enter key in frustration, then the game punishes you by loading your last saved game immediately after the FMV ends. Then when you quit, the FMV starts again.

2. You need to mess with the display settings a lot to get things right. Unfortunately you can't when you are playing since all the options are blacked out. Yes you have to quit to the main menu, wait for the retarded FMV to finish and then mess with the settings. Then you have to go through the same process once you want to test the new settings! Crazy innit?

This game is like going on a date with a sadistic leather clad bitch with a barbed whip, who isn't even all that attractive.
