According to MyCentralJersey.com, a 23-year-old Piscataway woman died yesterday due to complications from being hit by a truck in a hit-and-run accident. Tiffany Jantelle was trying to help a dog off the road that had been hit by another vehicle and she was struck by the truck at around 1 a.m. on Weston Canal Road in New Jersey.

Jantelle was in the road with a group of others surrounding the injured dog when a truck traveling northbound struck her. Witnesses say the two white males in the truck fled the scene instead of stopping to make sure she was okay. Jantelle was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital with a serious head injury and died early the following morning. The dog, reportedly a mixed-breed Shepherd, was euthanized because of extensive injuries, including a broken back.

Jantelle's mother confirmed her daughter's lifelong love of animals.

A black Dodge pickup truck of either the 2500 or 3500 series with a lift kit and twin chrome vertical exhaust pipes is believed to be the truck that hit Jantelle. If you have any information about this incident, you are encouraged to contact Officer Richard Hartnett of Franklin’s Traffic Safety Bureau at 732-873-5533 ext. 3168 or the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office line at 1-888-577-8477. A $5,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to an arrest and conviction.

Agreed,

But this is worse:

Detectives investigating the death of a six-year-old boy in a hit-and-run crash in West Yorkshire have urged the car driver to come forward.

...He said the driver of the car was believed to have got out and inspected his vehicle for damage immediately after the incident

ugh.

honestly, here's the tough question... what would you do if you hit someone completely by accident? i'd like to think that i'd do the right thing. but in that moment of panic when you see you've accidentally killed/nearly killed someone, who's to say what you'd do?

it's horrible... we humans are horrible.

I know exactly what I'd do, because I know I couldn't do anything else, I'd get out of the car, try and help, fail, watch them die, then sit there crying until the police or ambulance turned up.

i'm pretty positive i'd do the exact same thing. just knowing how good people can freak out and make a huge lapse in judgment is what scares me about our humanness. not saying whoever did this was a good person or not... i'm just saying that i could easily see a good person freak out and drive away in a moment of panic and fear. it's tragic.

Hey neckbeard, stop derailing the thread. We all know what happens in UK is more important to you, but no one gives a fuck. Kthnxbai

That's perfectly true, but IMO the person wouldn't have had the presence of mind to get out and check the damage to his car first. He'd have just freaked and put his foot down, that is a far more understandable reaction that what happened.

Yea! Another Neckbeard Derailing!

It's relevant.

Staying on topic and not to derail it like Mr. Derailment, sad story. Only 23 and a whole life to live. Also, poor doggie. 🙁

The OP and I were having a perfectly good chat about the awful things that human beings are capable of doing in moments of extreme stress or trauma, based on the article in the OP and the article I posted which was similar, you coming into the thread to then talk about me was the derail. Move on.

People who don't stop after running over someone are usually drunk, or at least thats how most of the stories I have seen seem to pan out.

You say "move on" a lot. I wonder why?

Douche meter is off the scale.

Execute them.

I knew you'd find this thread. Your hate-lifted-trucks-and-SUVs meter must have pinged so hard your head is still ringing.

😛

PING! 😛

It's true, I hate lifted trucks and SUVs. Vehicles with extreme lift kits should not be allowed on public roads, and many of them aren't legal but nobody enforces these laws.

This recently happened to my 18-year-old cousin. The driver dumped him at the ER and drove off rather than leaving him to die in the street. He's still banged up, but at least he lived.

...get charged with manslaughter and sit in prison for 3 years crying the whole time.
