I had one project where we did agile.. did the whole scrum master role, daily stand-up, sprints, stories, etc.. .
Overall thought it was fucking stupid. I think it can be useful for small scale projects, but for the massive project we were on waterfall is simply the only option.
As far as daily standups, I never took them to be micro managing... and believe me, I know what a micro manager is because with my last job I had one. Daily standups you can just say something like "I'm doing testing, currently don't have any roadblocks." And that's it.
A micro manager will randomly call you out of the blue and start asking you a million questions on statuses, next actions, what you are currently working on, etc... they expect you to know all this shit along with details off the top of your head, with no time to prepare because it was a random unscheduled call. Needless to say, that was the shortest time I've even been with a company.
