I hit some old guy with my car..........

Im so pissed at myself for not paying better attention. I came to a stop light and I wanted to turn right. As I was coming up on it, I noticed some old guy standing back and away from the cross walk. He was reading a book, or a magazine. He wasnt standing like he wanted to cross the street. So I crept up farther than the cross walk, the cross walk was like under my car and towards the back, its a blind intersection, so you have to pull up to see whats coming up on the left. Anyway, I was looking left...it was clear...I just started to make my right turn, just as I started to look straight and "WACK".....I hit this 70+ year old guy. I knocked him to his knees....I got out of the car and picked him up, I asked him if he was ok and he said, " Im ok, young feller". I must have asked him 20 times if he was ok, and I must have apologized another 20 times. Finally, he just headed on his way, walking down the street. I wasnt sure what to do....should I have called the cops?....an ambulance?...He seemed ok. This was a very big wake-up call for me. I allways thought that I was a safe driver, but I dunno now😱:disgust::|

I say just thank your lucky stars that no one was hurt, and keep this in mind for the future. Try not to lose a whole lot of sleep over it, but always try to be as careful as possible in the future (without being overcautious, like a certain person in another thread here..)

To cover your ass i would call the cops immediatly tell them what happened and how he left. you dont want him calling the cops later and saying it was a hit and run.

im very serious, call the cops no joke.

Not a very bright thing to do but accidents do happen. You should have tried harder to get him to go get checked by a doctor but you can?t really force him to go if he doesn?t want to. Just be more careful from now on. He should have been looking where he was going too so don?t feel to bad.🙂

Accidents do happen..

Just be glad he wasn't seriously hurt.

And try to be more careful from now on.

You're not a bad driver just because of that.

I most certinaly wouldnt place any blame on this guy, but I know when I cross the street when a car is up passed the crosswalk....I either walk behind the car, or make sure I have made eye contact with the driver so they know Im there, or I just wait. Im just glad I didnt hurt the guy, or even kill him. My car is low to the ground, and it has a semi flat nose, so Im sure that helped minimized any damage to him. I know it shook me up....BIG TIME....him to

Constantly amazed by pedestrians that are oblivlous of traffic and plunge out in front of traffic without looking. I see lots of kids not looking before they cross the street. What ever happened to "look both ways before you cross"???

Although it sounds like it truly was an accident, I would do as stated above.

You should have done something. He could be fine now, but if he starts having problem(which often can in auto or ped. accidents) he can sue you. You should have just drove him to nearby ER.

I nearly got hit by an Audi about a month ago myself.

There was two one way roads coming together at an intersection. The Audi driver was facing East at a red light. He was trying to turn left toward North.
I was at NW corner of the intersection trying to cross over to SW corner. I had a green. This stupid moron creeped through red without even coming to complete stop before crossing into crosswalk. I was already starting to walk. The driver was looking to his left and creeped toward me on crosswalk. I slammed on his hood with my text book to get his attention and left a nice little dent on his rather new car. He turned his head real fast and I yelled "watch where the f%@% your going!" out of panic. He didn't say anything and just left...

Well, I couldnt force the guy to get into my car. Maybe I should consult my lawyer on monday, and see what he suggests

That?s exactly the wrong thing to do, what would you have done if the guy got out of the car and ripped your face off? What if he called the cops and told them some punk kid attacked his car with a schoolbook. Then you would have to pay for the dent you put on his car.

If I just walked like an idiot and didn't respond, he'd have ran me over. I was holding onto my schoolbook and I slammed at his hood in a startle to get his attention. Anyways, I had a witness. He was walking into sidwalk from the other side and was nice enough to ask if I was ok unlike the stupid driver.

Good point, violence begets violence. What if the guy had pulled out a gun? You know, pedestrians as well as drivers need to be aware of one another. I know the law says that peds have the right of way, but that does you no good if your dead!!! You could have stopped walking, or yelled out to get his attention. If had been my car, you would be paying for the dent!!

love1u0: I think you'll be ok. Calling the cops isn't a bad idea. Call the non-emergancy number, or just stop by. Just make sure it is clear to them that the ped refused to do anything about the accident and that he walked away healthy.

Had it been you that pulled into a sidewalk against a red without even bothering to stop, you're at fault for startling a pedestrian, ignoring official traffic control device and failing to yield. I won't pay you a dime unless I'm ordered to pay by court.

Your aim SUCKS. 🙂

Hit them with the corner of your bumper, and try to get them to glance off the fender. You have to be going over 42.6 MPH for 96% effectiveness. Go for the legs, and they drop like a rock. 😀

I was just in this small tourist town near Austin, and these people obliviously without looking started crossing when our right turn light was green.

With lots of room to make a point, I went ahead and made my turn, the people started paying attention then. 🙂

I consider it tough love, if those people ever go to London or New York, they'll get run over being so stupid!

OMG! This thread should be stuck at the top of the forums!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's so funny! LMAO!!!!
