my dad's friend in HS used a point system for hitting animals

bigger or faster animals were worth more points

he would speed up or swerve to try to hit them with his big jacked up truck, and probably killed hundreds of animals unnecessarily over the years

sickening

Killed an entire family of possums at night, babies and all crossing the road. Felt bad but nothing I could do since there was fog and I was going 80mph. Just heard bump bump bump

80mph in fog? Man, that's dumb. :\
Well, to be fair it was in WV on an interstate which is mostly straightaways and speed limit is 70mph. So you do 80 down the steep straightaways to get speed to go up the steep grade straightaways. Fog doesn't really matter much other than being able to see what's on the road in front of you.

A few years back I hit a possum while riding my motorcycle, going about 100mph out on a country road. The damn thing started to cross the road ahead of me, got 3/4 the way across and decided it should turn back...At this point I was coming up on it awfully fast, trying an evasive maneuver was too risky, so I stayed on my line and accelerated through it. I thought it was going to be bad for the both of us, luckily for me it just felt like a small bump in the road. The possum was not so lucky.

lol.

stupid.

animals in the road are fair game.

if you swerve and damage someone else's car or you end up hitting a pole you are at fault.

swing away i say.

Exactly.

I don't go out of my way to hit animals. I will do everything in my power to not hurt an animal. I don't care if its wild or domesticated. That's just me.

Now, I'm not going to put an animal above a human being. That's just silly. I live in South Jersey. In the summer we have turtle crossings. There are signs posted everywhere. There are people who will immediately stop dead in the street if a turtle is present. I'm talking 40-50 mph roads. That's dangerous. There are also people who will go out of their way to hit turtles as well. They are just a-holes.

This thread reminded me of the guys I used to work with who would answer free kitten ads to get shark bait. They'd hook the kittens in the scruff of the neck and toss them out to tread water to attract the sharks.

Was this done in America?

They would spend a few years in prison if your friends were caught using kittens as shark bait. That's ridiculous. Why not use a pound of beef? The cats already dead once they are in the water anyway.

Once they pass into international waters they are no longer subject some things which is what I believe occurred. I love cats myself and would never abuse any animal that way.

I hit a seagull once while driving a pickup truck. The gull was swooping down to pick up some food item off of the road and dived directly into the top of my windshield where it met the roof. The carcass then flipped over the roof and landed in the back of my truck, dead as a dodo. All I had to do was pull up the dumpster when I got back to the works yard and toss it in the trash.

WOW. o_O

that was harsh.

Bah! I couldn't pass up the joke opportunity...it's not personal. I don't even know the guy! ;)

I think it's sad when a kitty gets hurt and not fun when you feel guilty about hitting something with your car. I've hit a few squirrels and come close to hitting a few rabbits in the past week or so...they seem to be everywhere.

Think I hit at least a dozen rabbits in a couple minutes. It was on a lonely country road just after daybreak, there were HUNDREDS of them darting across the road every 10 feet. Some made it, some didn't. :whiste:
When I lived in Panama, there were huge migrations of blue/land craps. Kinda sounded like driving down a gravel road, crunch, crunch, crunch.
Sideswiped a cow, and it really destroyed the rear quarter panel of my '68 Firebird. As hard as the hit was, the cow remained on it's feet.

I hit a squirrel. I even slowed down to let it cross to the side of the road...moved forward and the squirrel darted back in front of my van..killed it. It really really fucked up my day the whole time...felt so fucking bad the whole day.

This thread is a revelation to the fact that people can't drive. Pay attention to the road people.

Are you one of those jackasses that slam on their brakes and swerve for an animal, causing a much bigger safety situation for everyone around you?

no, but you're a jackass just cause. :p

i don't slam on my brakes if there is someone behind me. i just pay attention to the road and my surroundings, and drive the limits of the road not what's posted on a speed limit sign.

came close to hitting a family of deer crossing the road at night, but other than that no issues with running over animals. remember that they were living here well before we encroached in on their territory.

I almost hit a squirrel the other day, I was sad but I think it managed to make it ok. It just darted right in front of the car, I hit the brakes and could not see it anymore because it was under the car, but pretty sure the tires missed it. Not like there's much I could have done though it darted right at me, only saving grace was the fact I was only doing like maybe 30.

you sound demonic. do you get joy out of killing poor helpless animals? I see that some here do (bird bowling anyone )

smdh

boo fuckity hoo.

causing an accident is way worse than running over some animal.

not to mention irresponsible and costly.

but you continue to swerve around things on the street.

I ran over a cat once. Dark country road at night. Thing darted in front of the car out of nowhere. Didn't know it was a cat except for the loud cat screams. It rolled around under the car for a bit thumping around. Felt kinda awkward but didn't feel terrible about it. I actually felt worse the time I ran over a squirrel. I consider myself an animal lover but for whatever reason that cat incident didn't bother me.

More of a revelation that the outside world is harsh on domestic cats, which is why outdoor cats have an average lifespan of 3yrs vs 14-15 for indoor.

i hit a squirrel. with the tire, right flattened the poor guy.

didn't feel sad because i had no knowledge or control of the situation; i like squirrels too, but hey, it's life.

also if you are a squirrel, don't run across the road when cars pass by.

I was driving to the store at about 3:30 am. I hit this bump, and heard this screeching sound. I turned to my left and saw a black cat dart across the street. He looked like he was in shock.

I drove around the block but I wasn't able to find him. It was dark and the cat was black. Hopefully he's fine.

:(

 I absolve you.

If I was out on the boat with any of those fuckers, they'd become shark bait, because I'd throw their asses overboard.
