I heard the DUMBEST thing just minutes ago while gaming...

I just had to tell someone about this:


I was just playing a game of Day of Defeat:Source.

One of the players was giving another guy advise on computers.

Then he got to talking about graphics cards...he said that he was getting an ATI "387" pronouning it three eight seven.

I tried to tell him it was the "3870", pronounded thirty eight seventy.

He went on to say that the "387" is faster than the GTX..

Then he continued saying that in Crysis, the 3870 gets 20FPS more than the Ultra AAAAND that the Ultra was the slowest video card of them all! LOL!

I told him that he had no idea what the hell he was talking about, but ignored me....

Damn there are some SAFG out there....

Best Buy also sells HD 3xxx/2XXX cards, which are ATi... In general, I dislike Best Buy, just taking a cheap shot at them. I mean, 50' of CAT5e cable for $35, suck my.. nose. But, like EVERY (e)retailer, they do have good deals. This laptop im on right now, $400, normally $650.

Well if he was an ATI fanboy then I would expect him to pronounce it correctly.

What does this have to do with it? BestBuy sells BFG cards, which are Nvidia.

Refer to edit before this edit. You can work at a place that sells both, and push one product over another.

Those are the same people who told someone to buy more ram to get rid of a virus infection. The explanation was something along the lines of having more ram would make your pc have too much memory for the virus to handle..

It's just a slap at BestBuy - they are widely known to have some of the most incompetent tech support you could ever imagine.

Customer: "Hello, my computer is running slow and I have adware! Can you help me?"
BestBuy tech: "Well we'll re-format the hard drive."

In fact, if rumour has it right hard drive reformatting is the only software-related "help" you'll ever get, no matter how insignificant the problem. Doesn't have anything to do with the OT, but BestBuy does have a bad reputation for a reason.

It's Day of Defeat Source, what'd you expect? That community is just full of ignorant, elitist, whining 12 year olds with overstretched egos that all use configs to get rid of everything in the game that looks nice so they can get 60fps on their voodoo4 and geforce 2 mx systems. Then you've got the guys modifying network settings in the config and rating. Doesn't help them, I still roll em.

I got tired of it and moved on, you should too.

I just thought that it was very funny but also very dissapointing. Funny in that how can someone (who said that he had been reading reviews for hours) come to the conclusion that he did.

I found it dissapointing that no one else was trying to correct his mistake and that the poor guy that was taking advise didn't know he was totally incorrect...

I agree. I really do not play the game that much because it's kind of boring to me. But at the same time, I'm pretty much guaranteed a really good laugh because of the stuff I hear while playing...

if you try to correct everyone that is wrong ... well, you have an impossible task; plus, some people may rightly tell you to 'mind your own business' in a private conversation that you happen to overhear.

if a listener accepts his associate's FUD as trustworthy - without checking for himself - and buys the inferior card, he gets *exactly* what he deserves.

otoh if the person getting the crap 'advice' was a friend, then you should talk to him privately

I went to best buy and it didnt have a single modern card... It was out of stock on the 8800GT... it never had any stock of ANYTHING else above a 7300GT (from both companies). Also they were out of wii consoles.
