you can bring up ur upload speeds but while lowering ur download speeds. is something like this possible?
how do you do it?

hi
if u check dslreports.com you will figure out that you cant really tweak upload speeds but u can change (in my cases drastically) your download speeds by tweaing the tcp recieve window size and stuff,

i am not sure about these patches from speedguide.net but in dslreports.com they have a tweak too; (which is an applet) which will analyze ur connection and tell u the perfect tcp settings for your connection and operating system and then u can download drtcp (a software to manipulate these settings as suggested by the tweaks report) . try that it works pretty well and if u still dont get the kinda speed (a good speed is 80-85 % of your advertised dsl speed speed) then there are forums for each dsl provider and there are tech support people from your isp who can help you figure out what is wrong

There is a really good utility for this called Tweakmaster that is really easy to use for first timers. You can find it here http://www.tweakmaster.com Tweakmaster is only a trial. After the 30 days you have to pay. After you learn how to tweak use DrTCP from dslreports.com aka broadbandreports.com. Go to that websites tools section here http://www.dslreports.com/tools before you do any tweaking.

Use the speed test on that site before and after you make changes to compare the results. Also, do the tweak test, and check the faq on that page.

vetteguy,
He's referring to simple registry tweaks that will result in minor performance increases; he's not talking about hacking his modem to remove bandwidth caps. Besides, I thought such "hacking" could only be done with cable modems, because:

DSL is usually a direct line to the switch, and thus wouldn't benefit from the "hack," since one is not sharing the connection with others. However, cable is shared among the neighborhood. By removing the bandwidth caps, the user is essentially stealing bandwidth from other users; that's why hacking the modem is illegal.

Simple registry hacks/proggie tweaks are not illegal at all - the tweaks actually benefit the populace since they increase the net's efficiency. Tweak away 5489! 🙂
