1. Usually it's just ads for other shows.

2. Because I get it free with an antenna. And I can edit out the commercials relatively easily if I want to bother.

When did this crap start?

And why the fuck do people still watch regular TV?
Right?! I noticed in "real" time the hour long shows have gone down even more from 41 minutes to 37, allowing for 23 minutes total feeding time of subliminal suggestions of why it's a good thing to have the inability to move your arms and legs when falling asleep or waking, and how you can run around exhibiting aggressive behaviour while in your sleep with headless furry cats & dogs and have no memory of it the next day... At least the drugs we took in the 80's allowed us to remember the good times from the night before the next day. And when you had an erection lasting 4 hours or more you knew what to do with it, and it wasn't seeking medical attention!

TV was never about content. It was always about the ads. Content was the way that network execs brought eyeballs to watch the ads.You will not like where TV is going.Soon there will be no content at all, just ads. And given the drivel of most content, that may be sooner, not later.

There is also the addition of blatant advertising during the show:

"Oh no! Additional Main Character Timmy is in the hospital! We have to get there now!"

"Right! Let me just pull up the directions on my 8" center console screen on my internet connected Buick Enclave. And we won't have to worry about being admitted to the hospital along side Timmy because the Enclave got a 5 star crash rating."

"It is a great car. I really like the stow and go seating too!"

Yeah, I noticed that they started showing banner ads for the likes of Subway and Capital One in the score boards for various sports programs. The ones in NASCAR races are especially obnoxious.

I don't get it... the more they do crap like this, the less willing I am to watch live TV and just watch everything ad free on Netflix.

Although, come to think about it, the amount of product placement in new Netflix series is getting pretty obnoxious as well. I swear that Apple has to be giving money to the people making House Of Cards, for an example.

Apple is giving money to a lot more than Netflix. 95% of movies/shows I watch have apple computers and phones.

What is tv?

I must not watch TV.
TV is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my TV.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when TV has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the TV has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain.

CBS has massive ads that sometimes cover 1/4 of the screen. It's pretty ridiculous. They figure if people DVR and fast forward this is a way to promote another crap show.

I have when the NEWS has a story on a show on their network to promote it like it's actual news. I instantly change the channel. I'm hoping to reduce my reliance on Comcast this fall when my contract is up. I'd like to just give up all TV and go with a streaming service but they all have one limitation that keeps me from being on board. I'm considering an antenna and a Tivo OTA DVR as a solution as well. Long as I can record broadcast TV and sports I can figure out how to watch the rest.
