that may be my longest streak in years. Picked up Dawn of War: Dark Crusade (Steam sale), ShadowGate (2014), and Dead Effect (don't even remember buying this :) )

Streak is probably going to end tonight. There are three Indie games on sale in this week's Steam Weekly Sales that I want to get.

What's the longest you've gone?

I usually go months between buying games. I guess usually however long it is between Steam sales. I did buy Sorcerer King last night though which sort of breaks that streak. Stardock sent me a 25% coupon and hooked me.

I'm pretty sure I didn't buy a single video game in all of calendar year 2014. I'd wager that was my longest streak by a pretty good stretch since I started buying games back in 1989.

For all games in general, I've gone over a year but then caught up in sales afterwards. In fact, given the appalling half-broken / buggy / unfinished state many are released in plus the speed at which they drop in price, I hardly buy any games at full price / near launch time these days. Makes far more sense to clear your backlog first, and by the time you've done that the games you were going to buy are not only half price with the DLC bundled in free as GOTY versions, but are actually finished, patched & finally properly playable.

For AAA games specifically though, it's been the driest two years dating back to the late 80's for me. In fact The Talos Principle is about the only modern "big" game I've bought over 2014-2015. All the rest have been Indie's or catching up on stuff I missed on GOG. It's not a question of money, I'm just thoroughly bored / burnt out on the same worn out EA, Ubisoft, etc, "low risk development" overly-sequelled / remade / rebooted / milked to death franchises.

Not enough new stuff to really entice me at entry price points. I did buy GTAV when it came out, and played it quite a ways through the main story, but I haven't played it in months since. I bought Titanfall a couple months ago for $14 on Origin, which was worth it at that price. There were plenty of people online and I've spent a good 20 hours online with it. In the end though, I always come back to War Thunder, with Ground Forces being my main muse since I have so much of the American and German aircraft trees finished. Also ground forces has held my attention more with better balance of action and fun, as opposed to all the waiting involved with taking off and flying to the target area involved in RB Aircraft battles. I love using the German SPAAGs (check my sig for a video!).

Also, during the past week, War Thunder GF inspired me to go back to playing Red Orchestra 2. I forgot how awesome (and brutally hard) it is. Good times.

I'm the same way, I tend to save up all my game purchases for the two huge orgys of game buying goodness that is the Steam Sells.

Got you beat, I haven't bought OR played a game in 3 weeks. I think I've hit a wall.

Typically years. Just bought three games but that is a rarity for me. If you have any "friends" on Steam check out what they have in their wallet. Typically wallets are filled with little/unplayed games. I purchase rarely and for quality.

I check /r/steamdeals every day nowadays.

This.

The last few years have basically been a drought of "good" games. I'm not saying that the games that came out where bad, but they didn't have the staying power of earlier games. Still looking for those games that would be games I can look back and say are THE games of the '10s (after being bought at a cheap price :)).

My last 2 games are WoW: MoP and PVZ Garden Warfare (3rd person shooter) so it's been almost a year. I tend to invest a lot of time in these games which have leveling up. I don't do single player games as it doesn't hold my interest nightly as those do. I've got 392 hours with PVZ - so addicting. My next one will surely be PVZ Garden Warfare 2 in Q2 2016.
