Since the lesser-paying job is driving a school bus...this is more than appropriate:

My first LOL of the day and it's almost 2PM, back in the day this would've happened by 10AM.

Well, I thought I'd be getting up at 4 in order to be on time at 5, but it turns out the shift starts at 5:30, so I'll probably be getting up at 4:30.

...gods damn it, just reading that makes me hate my life. I'm gonna be asleep by 9 every night, I didn't even do that when I was in grade school. o_O

Well, at first you'll just be tired at work, then you'll start going to sleep early out of necessity. You'll handle it.

You will soon covet naps.

Grats on getting 2 job offers. Who cares if they aren't ATOT 100k jobs? A job is a job.

Yeah I've done this before, had to be at one job by 5 every day. I'll adapt out of necessity, doesn't mean I have to like it though :colbert:

I'm still happy about it though. It's true that neither option is a good choice for a permanent job, but they're both still a step up.

Why? You're young...you don't need more than 4-5 hours of sleep. You can sleep when you're dead.

No, 4-5 hours is in the adjustment phase. Running on 4-5 hours is what makes sleep by 9 seem appealing.

I tried doing 4-5 hours long term in college... it didn't work. By 11am I was coherent enough to pass as a normal college kid, but the problem was the 6-11 hours, especially in the winter when the sun wasn't up until about 8. There was once I was doing my thing, driving east, then suddenly I shook myself awake and I was a mile away from my last known location and driving south. Never again.

IMHO, if I were in your shoes, I would try to find a job that pay more while working at the factory, then take night school to increase my employability and potential for growth in wages.

I get up at 5am, job start at 6:30am, but I'm swipe in often by 6:00~6:15am, and I live 6-7 minute drive away from work (about 10 minute by bicycle in the summer).

Best of all is that my bosses are the best bosses that I ever had, and I get pay a heck of a lot more than 1K/month.

I might just do something like that, but for the next few weeks I'm just going to be learning this job. I doubt the job itself is that complex, but it takes some time to learn it, learn the employer, learn the co-workers, etc. After 3 months at the most I should have a pretty good idea of my prospects for advancement at that factory. Right now the plan is to (finally) get to AF boot camp in early summer, but if I like the company and, say, I find that I could move up to a 20-25/hour job with an associates in X, I would probably take that over boot camp.

If it were entirely up to me I would have been in the Air Force a few months ago, but between having asthma when I was 7 and having some late payments on my credit history (none current) they decided to bury me in paperwork and waiting periods. Never mind that I scored a 98 on the ASVAB, we have to file medical and financial waivers for things most sane people wouldn't even give five minutes' thought.
