I have to write a report on a 'web personality' someone who has done something significant for or on the web.

Three reports were already given, Tim Berners-Lee, Jeff Bezos, Michael Dell. There's so many out there, I feel overwhelmed as to who I should pick. Anyone have any suggestions? Perhaps I should make my report on Anand? Not sure if there's enough information on him for me to write a report. So any person you guys would like to recommend?

Eh, Freck? I didn't even want to click past the entry page.

As for Anand, I'm seriously considering it, although the only information is from the "About AnandTech"
and "AnandTech Staff" pages. It would be nice to have a little more information such as date of birth and what not. Wasn't there a page in the past where it had videos of Anand? I remember seeing him driving around in his car in one. What happened to those pages? It was a while back of course.

Reading up on Jon Postel right now...

edit: Found more articles on Anand:

On November 2, 1988, Robert Morris, Jr., a graduate student in Computer Science at Cornell, wrote an experimental, self-replicating, self-propagating program called a worm and injected it into the Internet. He chose to release it from MIT, to disguise the fact that the worm came from Cornell. Morris soon discovered that the program was replicating and reinfecting machines at a much faster rate than he had anticipated---there was a bug. Ultimately, many machines at locations around the country either crashed or became ``catatonic.'' When Morris realized what was happening, he contacted a friend at Harvard to discuss a solution. Eventually, they sent an anonymous message from Harvard over the network, instructing programmers how to kill the worm and prevent reinfection. However, because the network route was clogged, this message did not get through until it was too late. Computers were affected at many sites, including universities, military sites, and medical research facilities. The estimated cost of dealing with the worm at each installation ranged from $200 to more than $53,000.

Oh yeah, my friend is already doing his report on Marc Andreeson, so he's already taken.

As for Dennilfloss, yeah, I remember the hoop-la that surrounded these forums when he told the truth. Sick sick sick... best to leave that buried.

The Peter Pan guy, didn't he win some award? LOL, I think I'd get shot for giving a report on him...

I guess I'll go with Anand, I think I have enough information about him. Wish I still had access to the multimedia stuff that was on the site before. I'm going with a Powerpoint presentation so it would be nice to have some videos or audio files. Anyone have any of them archived? I remember a cool shot of him sitting in the middle of the road receiving a package. I think it was in Wired? Going to go search for it now, would be a nice photo to start or end the presentation with.

There are a ton of "Internet personalities" you could use (Bezos, Yang and Filo, Omidyar [eBay], etc.) but why not be original? Pick someone who started something smaller (and who is less of a media icon) and made his or her own impact on an Internet community. The Internet as a whole still doesn't have a clue as to what it aspires to be; the individual communities on the Internet are what it is really about. I'd suggest Anand as the logical choice, since there is a decent amount of information about him and his site out there, and since he is someone who has had an impact on you personally.

Bump For Anand.

Tom Pabst may be bigger and more widely known, but Anand gets my vote because of his age, and his brilliance.
When I read his articles I'm constantly blown away by his intelligence and the fact that he founded this company as a teenager.

I also admire his humility, and that's the one reason I would give Anand the article b4 Pabst.

Plus, I live in Cary, NC, real close to Anand. Gotta vote for the NC-natives.
