I have been a member of Anandtech from the beginning more than 10 yrs ago.

I have sold and traded for that long and never once had a bad transaction on my end...10yrs, perfect heat.

Forum changes recently and I missed the fact I had to somehow enable my profile and email again..

So I get an infraction for this. You have to be kidding me. The mod could have just said enable this with nothing.

Jeez.

LOL

ok, I deserved that

there's a giant sticky and announcement in the FS/FT section. Learn to read them. If you've been here that long, you should know stickies are used to update on rule changes and such.

I rarely read the stickies. Sorry but an infraction seems stupid. I did not PM with this ..took my medicine but wanted to vent

There's your first mistake.

There would be no reason to "take your medicine" if you would keep yourself updated of the rules. They do tend to change from time to time.

I though you got warnings and bans in here. Where do I find more info on these new disciplinary measures?
I did not see it in the faq.

how about a mass pm to members so in case we miss them? and by the way how about an option to kill a thread?

How about read the stickies? That's why they are there, so we don't have to hold each users hand through everything.

As for killing threads, that's above my pay grade.

as I said, in case they are missed. then there is more reason to take someone to the racks if they ignored the sticky and the pm.

They should not be missed, that's the whole point. Why should we have to bend over to make people follow the rules?

Being given the infraction is no big deal. Just take it as a notice to enable your Profile and Email.

I also received an infraction for not updating an e-mail, of course this was *before* FS/FT received an actual noticeable bulletin saying to update such things.

If we are supposed to read the stickes before every post then why not change the few settings it would require to ensure that every member is required to read that post before entering the forums?

In all my years of browsing and designing vBulletin forums I have *never* seen such a sloppy implementation of notifications. Even the most basic forum serving 10 people has it set up so that members either get a PM notifying of changes or are redirected to a page from where they can read the updated post. To just update the sticky and somehow believe that people are going to wander in there to read it is absolutely stupid. That's like the government saying they're going to outlaw driving on Sunday but they don't tell anyone, they just start handing out tickets. If you wanted to know you should have been reading over your book of state and federal laws.

As I said already, this isn't a forum of 10 people. It's a forum of thousands upon thousands of members. I would expect just a *little* more thought to go into these things.

Like I need the mods to send me even more PM's.

Especially with a forum I do not us at all I would rather not get PM's about.

Realize that we are in the process of trying to tailor the forums. If we were to flag a sticky; at what point would it become useless. An then the next day, someone would complain that they were not advised.

Maybe a USER could subscribed to a sticky and then be notified when a change happened.
this way people that are not interested will not get a notification.

Nobody would have taken offense to a simple request. It's the whole "you have an infraction on your account for the next ten days" that makes people want to give you the finger.

It's not our fault your db import sucked, yet you come across like you think we're intentionally flaunting the rules. Obviously we are not, so why not just send us a PM?

Its a new vb features. The more infractions a mod gives out, the more prizes they win. :D

I don't think an 'infraction' has any direct consequences, other than to just tag someone that didn't follow some rule. Just shrug it off.

this ^^

if we changed the word 'infraction' to 'yummy candy' , then would people be ok with getting 'yummy candy' for not fixing their email ? it would be the same thing, a way to get people to do what they need to do
