Has anyone here taken the SAT? If so, is it really hard to make better than a 1200?

Also, what is the best way to prepare for the test? I have to take in May 3rd. So I have 2 months to prepare. I feel I should start immediatly.

I got a 1400 on it w/o studying (old test). As long as you are moderatly intellegent, you should be able to pull off a 1200 (old test).

Isn't it out of 2400 now? A 1200 is pretty bad under the new scoring system, I think.

DISCLAIMER: it's been 5 years since I last took an SAT.

In 2005, they added an essay section, made the math alittle harder and they take grammar seriously.

I thought the SAT went to 1600. Wow! Relief!!! That means I have to make a 50% or better?! Whoa!!!

My friend got a 1250.

ON THE NEW SCORING SYSTEM. HAHAHA.

I am taking my SAT test on April 1st. I feel as though it should be a good experience especially since I will be taking it one more time if I get a horrible score.

Don't let the pressure get to you. It did for me and destroyed my official scores. I routinely get ~1400 and sometimes 1500 on practices but my one shot SAT score was 1290 :(

This was under the old system. It must be kinda weird seeing my transcript. 4s and 5s on my APs and a lowly 1290 for my SAT :p

I heard two seperate people say it went to 1600. Maybe they were talking about the average...

Getting lower than a 1200/2400 is harder than it is to get higher...it really isn't that hard man. I have to take mine April 1st and haven't even opened a book. And I have to get >2300....Ya, I'm effed, but I don't really care.

I got a 1220 on mine and got into some of the top schools in the north east. I wouldn't worry about it to much.

EDIT: Refering to the old test. 610/610

Since not too many people have bothered to give the guy the help he is asking for:

My parents signed me up for a little seminar. It was just two short lectures on how to take each section of the SAT. Along with some study material to take home.
I'm not much an academic person, but I got around a 1450.
(This was 10 years ago.)

I honestly think the SATs won't be as hard as people are making them out to be. I have a confident mindset right now so hopefully when April comes around I will be ready for the test.

i would start early memorizing words. get a book that has a bunch of suggest words in it, its almost impossible to cram all those words in your brain the last week or so. the math part you can cram if your are good at math

I wonder if I should pick up an 'SAT for Dummies', cram now, and take it in April? Then if I score low, take it in May.
