Mining is not what is killing the cards. It is the people who repair the ones sent into said company, they do crap repair jobs.

Still no excuse for them to keep sending broken GPUs, etc over and over again.

when people are overclocking to get better performance and cramping 4 cards onto a motherboard with no airflow, they kill cards. people are greedy and will try to squeeze every ounce of performance out of their cards knowing they can just RMA.

Mining can kill cards by running them 24/7 and degrading the chips so that they can't run stable at stock.

a card run at stock with good airflow shouldn't die.

Only if the cards were under-engineered in the first place. There are plenty of us that use GPUs for distributed-computing (similar to mining), and good cards hold up. Bad cards burn out. Just the way it is.

Well, if I ever decide to venture over to the other side (nvidia), I will have to give them a shot. I've heard and seen nothing but great things about their products. And I absolutely love their PSU (using a 500b).

I had to rehash this thread. This just happen recently. I purchased a Zotac GTX770 amp edition. I got the card went ahead got it all hooked up. Went online to register the serial code for warranty. No serial code was not on file with manufacturer. Emailed support they said same thing. Also the Splinter Cell coupon was invalid. They wouldn't honor that either. This was coupon offered by Zotac. Keep in mind this card and coupon was sealed in the box never used. I went ahead contacted Newegg they gave me a RMA ( full refund ). I wasn't about to keep a video card that wasn't covered under warranty. I went ahead and purchased the MSI GTX 770 gaming edition. The cooling difference was HUGE! 15C difference at load!! Ran into no problems registering the serial code. The whole thing with Zotac was just bizarre..

I just bought an MSI N640-1GD5/LP http://www.msi.com/product/vga/N640-1GD5-LP.html
and while I think the HD videos that I've seen were spectacular and Battlefield 2 and Unreal Tournament 3 worked great (with Intel E8500 CPU and 2GB G.Skill 1066MHz RAM), I think a it's unacceptable for a solid company like MSI to come out with a video card that makes such a horrendous fan noise. It literally ruined the sound level of my whole build (all 120mm fans). I'm now looking for a quieter solution. And this, for a budget card. I guess next time I'll look for one with heatpipes that allows you to change the fan yourself more easily.

Your card must have had a flaw, my 770 which was exactly the same as yours refuses to hit over 70cel if i apply a 75% fanspeed and that is with my Rosewill Line-M with two 75cfm 120mm fans......65% and i was lucky to hit 74c but never broke pass that.

I am sure the Msi design is great and a better overall design,i had a TF3 7850 and it was fantastic but i highly doubt there is a 15C difference in load temperatures between a Amp! and a Msi Gaming 770.
