I have to get this off my chest...

I HATE HATE HATE people who use their wipers while driving during sunny days. Last minute lane cutters, non-signalers, left lane slow drivers, etc i can tolerate, but it's just asinine to be using your wipers when the sun's out. 😡

If you know your windshield is dirty, clean it BEFORE you drive. There should be no reason for you to use it while driving and spewing your gunk and dirt to the car behind you, especially to someone who wash and wax his/her car on a monthly basis. Unless a pigeon inadvertently unleash his entire bowel onto your windshield covering the ENTIRE driver side, there should be NO reason for you to use wiper...EVER. 😡

I remember clogging up my washers on my old car when I got wax in the holes. When I bored it out with a safety pin, they started shooting over the car whenever I used them...always wondered if it hit someone behind me 😉

You should get a second car, a beater car. You can park the good one in the garage and admire it, polish it, sniff the upholstery and just generally adore it. In the beater, you won't have to be concerned about other drivers using their wipers. But then again, you probably will.

If bugs or junk get on my windshield while I'm driving, I'm going to use my wipers. #sorrynotsorry
FWIW, I've never had another car "spray me with dirt." Sounds like you're too close to other cars.

When you're driving at freeway speed with 3-car length in between, you'll still get hit. It's the main reason why i dont tailgate. It's the mixture of water, dirt and whatever crap was on their windshield that gets you, not just dirt alone.

I use mine whenever it is dirty and I notice it. I actually use them quite a bit, probably twice a day really. I just like having my windshield clean. It may be as I'm heading off from wherever my car was sitting overnight or at work or after I've been driving for a couple minutes. It may just be to clear away someone else's spray because they hit their wipers when the sun came blaring in from the horizon and they realized how dirty their windshield was.

If I get some spray on your car tough shit. 😛

3 car lenghts huh? Yep i would give you the washers as well. Guess you definition of tailgating is different than most.

If people doing stupid crap has THAT much of an effect on you, chances are you got some deep issues of your own.

So tell us, what's really bothering you?

Yea this has NEVER happened to me and I live and drive in car central.

Also the OP has apparently never driven in conditions when the roads are wet slush and experienced the dirty muck that you and everyone else kicks up.

Using wiper washers are necessary for survival during certain months of the year.

I hate when people use them while at speed when they had many opportunities to use them while stopped at a light or in traffic.

WOOOOOSSHH...thats the sound of the first post flying over your head.

he gets it. Seriously. Do it when you come to a stop, crawling in traffic, on the shoulder, whatever. Don't be a dick and do it while driving.

A lot of times you don't notice how dirty your windshield is until the sun lights it up and the layer of dirt is blinding. Me seeing right then is more important than preserving your wax job because you're following too close.

I used my wipers during sunny days in the winter, gotta wash the constant salt screen off of the windshield so I can see through the damn thing.

This just in, the great outdoors is filled with dirt, bugs and, all manner of organic and inorganic crud. That's why the call it the "outdoors." Take your churlish rump back to your basement and stay there.

At 70 MPH, the spray from the car in front goes a LONG way back. If you live in Los Angeles, you've never gone that fast on a freeway. 🙂

And if you ever drive a convertible, you'll see how many people will spray you just for the heck of it.

My nozzles are messed up and spray over my windshield a bit even when stopped. If someone was tailgating 3 car lengths back at highway speeds, I'd happily empty my wiper fluid all over your car.

It's not optimal to clean with your wipers while on the move (although sometimes you have to since bugs can get plastered all over) but the only thing that's asinine here is tailgating.

Also this:

This.

Driving in MN on a wintry, sunny day I use my wipers more than a drizzly day because the salt/slush mixture is just nasty. You get a constant mist from cars in different lanes, even 10+ car lengths ahead, when on a 60mph+ highway. Not as bad on slower roads, but it builds up and it is a safety issue.

My take is that I support anyone using their wipers at any time if that means they can see better. Sure there may be some cases where cleaning it off before they drive is better, but I will never be upset someone is trying to drive more safely.

OP is off-base on this IMHO. While it may 'annoy' him, its better for the rest of us when everyone can see out of their windshield.

If I can hit you with my washer fluid, you're too close

Also, if something got on my windshield that I have to clean off, then that means it's on your car too. So the idea that I'm washing stuff onto your car that wouldn't be there otherwise is laughable. Plus, you're going to be washing & waxing your car in a couple weeks anyway so big freaking deal.
