Yesterday morning as I was about to leave my place, my landlord yelled from upstairs that a pipe had burst under her bathroom sink. I immediately tried turning the shutoff valve, which is in my suite, but it didn't seem to be working. (I later found out I was turning the shutoff for the outside system; the inside shutoff was covered by drywall and inaccessible :roll🙂

My landlord finally managed to shut off the scalding water upstairs, but not before I had a medium sized puddle on my kitchen floor. The water had leaked through the ceiling and insulation and blown out a light fixture in my kitchen.

A plumber came to fix the pipe, and restoration contractors came by to rip out the drywall and insulation and run industrial strength blowers. Thankfully there is no damage to the carpeting, appliances, or any of my electronics or other stuff.

So now I have one less light in my kitchen, exposed ceiling and a bit of drywall dust on the floor, but other than that, everything is fine. I can still cook in my kitchen, etc. The repairs will probably be finished in a week or so.

Even though I'm not really inconvenienced, she felt bad about what had happened and got me a (sizable) gift card for the Keg Steakhouse. Wow! I thanked her but told her it was totally unnecessary.

So you gave it back?

Hellz no. Free steak? If I gave back the gift card, I might as well have turned in my man card too.

Did you ask her if that card was good on March 14th?

I wonder if the heavy duty fans in my place count as the "blowjob"?

despite all this you still have the best land lord ever?

Of course. She renovated the suite when she bought the house (new pipes, carpeting, linoleum, paint and moldings), and she has been prompt about the few repairs I have needed and other concerns. I have helped her out by shoveling snow and doing other random chores.
