I was quite affected by this growing up in michigan as it's overcast for most of the winter months. Has been much better since moving to Atlanta.

Exercise helps too (helps me at any rate), so try to get a workout in a few times a week if you can.

I know it does, believe me. When I start feeling really bad during the winter it seems like the only thing that will make me feel any better is to find something physical to do and then push myself till I drop. The harder I work, the better I feel. Not exactly the best way to go about it, I know, but it helps.

Yep - I have the same thing (except mine has been clinically diagnosed). I live in Panama for most of my life, where we didn't have shorter/longer days in the winter/summer. When I moved to the Panhandle of FL three years ago, I noticed that I would become extreamly sluggish, and depressed around winter (Dude - it's freaking 4:30 and it's already getting dark :| ). I went to the doctor, and they diagnosed me with SAD :(

Now I just get up @ 6am and sit outside in a lawn chair in the sun, and I feel much better. Part of my light therapy is to expose myself to bright light between the hours of 6am to 9am. It's clinically proven that morning light has the best results in reversing the effects of SAD.

Don't tempt me, I'm trying to stop myself from buying this. So far the force is strong with me, I scanned in my cc statements and using them as wallpaper (wiped out the cc numbers of course). A constant reminder that I am neck deep in debt already.

So now I know the name of this disease, SAD.

Ugh and it's not going to get better until at least May, great another 6 months of SAD.

Dude, just go outside in the morning for an hour or two (if you can) or sit next to a 100w light bulb for an hours and most of the effects of sad will start to dissapear. ;)

I hate this lack of sunlight, especially coming from Hawaii. I'm gonna get so burned back home during Christmas.

All you need to do is run to the store and pick up a few gro-bulbs, the kind of light bulbs you use to grow plants indoors. Put them in a few select lamps around your place, where you can be in their light for a couple of hours a day, and the full spectrum light those things put off will help you through the short day blues. :)

I realized today at work, it's 4:00 PM I work in a cubicle farm, it's getting dark outside and I feel sleepy 24/7.

Either I need to move somewhere sunnier (AZ/NV/Australia) or get some artificial lights all around me 24/7.
A full spectrum light will do you wonders. We use them for some of our plants, and they work very well for us as well. :D

How many of those bulbs would I need at work in a cubicle?

Just one or two in a cubicle, and one by your favorite TV chair and one by your computer desk, you should be set.
Oh, and have the Staples manager put one by their clearance aisle for you ;)

The Pineapple express is a chain of rainstorms that extends from the Pac. NW down to Hawaii. Durring the later parts of winter, we will be inundated with rain from these storms constantly rolling in from Hawaii for more than a good week. This is especially true during an El Nino, such as this year.

Oh, and TheEvil1, go find your rock and crawl back behind it. SAD is a proven disorder, and is especially common among transplants in to the Pac. NW. It varies to certain degrees, but it happens to a sizable portion of the population.

Fvkc you all... It's cold, grey and overcast here and I like it! Fcvk sunshine. :D

Lethal

P.S. Not being snide here (sarcastic maybe ;P), I have light sensitive eyes so sunlight is a b**ch for me. I like how the sun makes things grow, but g0dd()mn does it have to be so bright? ;)

You wanna know an interesting way of helping yourself feel better instead of sitting under a sunlamp?
Find a couple decent light sources (i.e. flashlights) and shine them on the backs of your knees. Apparently humans have light receptors in that area and will achieve the same results as if you were bathed in light. :)
