What's it called?

I realized today at work, it's 4:00 PM I work in a cubicle farm, it's getting dark outside and I feel sleepy 24/7.

Either I need to move somewhere sunnier (AZ/NV/Australia) or get some artificial lights all around me 24/7.

Dude, I know how you feel. :(

It seems like it's been cloudy and crappy weather here for like the past 2-3 weeks. What i'd give for a nice sunny day about now.

BTW, the name of the disease is Seasonal Affective Disorder.

(nice acronym)

Well when I wake up in the morning at 5:15 a.m., it's dark. When I goto school at 6:45 a.m., it is still dark. When I get home at 6 p.m., it's dark. None of my classes have windows, so I will see the sun for maybe 10 minutes a week :(

It's called IfvckingHateDaylightSavingsTimeINITIS!!!!!!

seriously... Daylight Savings Time is responsible... I'd rather have an hour more of darkness in the morning than an hour chopped off my evening... In fact, I think Daylight Savings Time should move the opposite way. Screw the farmers or whatever it's for. I want more time to play.

I really reallly really hate Daylight Savings Time... I get the flu right after the switch every year. ARGHHH!!! Why did you bring it up?!

Yup, SAD. Seasonal Affective Disorder...try to get out in the sun as much as possible and exercise when you are not working...

If it gets really bad, artifical lights with the proper "range" are supposed to be of great help. :)

I got that, i would get fairly depressed and got worse as the winter went on. That's why I'm down here in New Orleans for school. It was 69 today and we played frisbee in shorts out on our quad.

I've got it too, unfortunately - seems to run in my family. Seems to be worse around Christmas and New Years (after honest-to-goodness winter's been around for a few weeks) and after that it gets a little better. March or April (heck, even late february) rolls around and we get that first bluebird sky, bright sunny day...ooohhh, that feels sooooo good. My GF has it, too, but she's got one of thos lights. I may just have to borrow that a few times this winter. :D

You have got to be kidding me. Daylight Savings Time is considered a source of depression? Too brittle & fragile, I tell ya.

I read in a psychology publication that getting up around the same time or slightly after the sun can greatly help those suffering from SAD. Unfortunenatly this is quite unrealistic for some.

Not DST specifically, just the fact that the length of time durring which the sun is out - both because of shorter day length and the fact that it's so often cloudy durring the winter. I know what you're thinking though; I myself used to think that stuff like this - weather affecting moods and such - was all BS. Then over the last two winters things really seemed to go to pot. I was more or less in a permanently depressed, PO'ed mood from the end of fall until the weather warmed and cleared in spring. I finally realized it when I found myself driving home from class one sunny spring day with an ear to ear grin on my face, the radio cranked up, and the windows open. All for no particular reason. I think I was even singing along to the radio. I hadn't felt like that in months. Heck, I hadn't felt good period (emotionally; physically I was fine) in a long time.

Ross, don't take it the wrong way, but it's still dry and mostly clear up here. If you're getting SAD now, what will happen come December when the Pineapple Express comes rolling in?
