I have some easy computer questions i need somone to answer.

Im buying a new motherboard and processor later today and i was suggest to get Epox EP-8K7A but one comes with RAID and one doesnt. I have no clue what RAID is? Can somone help me out? Im also going to be getting a 1.2ghz Athlon and probably going to have people help me overclock is to 1.4. Also getting 512 Crucial 2100 ram. I dont know if any of that matters but can somone explain to me what RAID is?

rest of stuff: For hard drives im getting 1 40gig GFX drive and probably just a cheap 5 gig drive to install Windows on. That way when i format i dont loose everything. Im getting a Sound Blaster X-Gamer Card and im using a Elsa Gladiac GeForce 2 32mb card i got. Well... so is this good a setup? It will cost me like $600 to buy it all and i was wondering if you guys can explain to me what RAID is... Thanks!

Raid lets you use 2 hard drives together as 1 bigger one, for faster speed or enhanced reliability. For IDE drives, it is kind of a moot point in most cases. But, I like the raid versions of boards for the 2 extra IDE chans.

GFX drive? You mean an IBM 60GXP drive? If so, good choice.

Do not get a cheapie 5 gig for windows. Windows will take an hour to load, and you will slow way down. Instead, partition your 40 gig HD into a 5 gig windows partition, a 20 gig app partition, and a 15 gig data partition.

Dang you sure like asking about raid.

What PSU will you be using? You will want a 350 watt high quality PSU or better.

I was going to just order a case off of pricewatch.com that came with a 400watt power supply.... is that a good idea or a bad idea? I dont have much to spend so i cant get some big fancy one.

400W is MORE THAN ENOUGH. You could probably go 300-350w if you wanted.

MM not the best idea. Generic 400 watt psu can be worse than a good 300 watt. Spend the extra $$ for the good struff, you will appreciate it.

Try directron.com for good case deals.

If you really wanted the extra performance, you could buy 30GB drives and put them in RAID 0, which would give you 1 fast 60GB drive. Then you can partition from there. And if that would be the case, remember to get the EPoX EP-8K7A+ mobo.

As for Cases would you guys beable to pick one out for me? A good price too cause im low on money. Hopefully i can get some more from my logo and graphics design stuff.

Good case would be Antec range either the SX830/40 or Antec SX1030/40,if you want a 400w PSU go for the 40 models ie SX840 or SX1040 ,btw Antec PSUs are very good as well that come with the cases.Note they also do a small SX635 that comes with 350w PSU.

Yeah, i just need a kinda small cass... needs to hold 2 CD rom Drives and 1 Hard drive. and i guess a 350w power supply.... Anyone know where i can get a sorta cheap one? but yet good quality?

I picked up an Antec KS-282 from local CompUSA for about $79, works great. 300w PSU, 3 5.25&quot;, 4 3.5&quot;, and a name brand. A little small for overclocking fiends, but sounds like it might work for you...

Wouldnt i need 350w? And the guy that im getting the 1.2 from said he over clocked it to 1.4 so it might have a big fan or what not on it.
