Hey Heather, if it makes you feel any better, take a look at my project car....it needs a lot more than an alternator :D

I think that's an oxy-moron. :D

Anyhow, replacing an alternator and a master cylinder is generally considered maintenance expense, particularly with a car that was bought used. One can never predict when they will go out, especially alternators...chances are tho that when you got the car the master cylinder was already in bad shape.

If I read this correctly, all your car needs is an alternator??? Anyone who knows anything about auto repair can have one of them slapped in your car in maybe 30 minutes tops and you'd be on your way. They're not that expensive either, and lots come with lifetime gaurentees. It's not that big of a deal.

Okay, maybe I can clarify another way. *Sigh*

We didn't know it was the alternator when it happened. We were in the middle of nowhere. My friends had to be in Bakersfield a few hours later. The only choice we had at the time, was to tow it back to my dad's where it could be looked at again. I'm aware of how expensive/inexpensive alternators are, but I had no freaking choice at the time but to leave the car. Better?

We went to go get my car yesterday and about 119 miles from my dad's house, my car stopped running. When we were getting around Stockton from Sacramento my radio stopped playing while my left blinker was on. At first I thought it was just the radio station cutting out so I didn't pay any attention to it. Then, it happened again and I knew it was more than coincidence. I tried with my right blinker. . . same thing. Tried with my lights. . . same thing. So I called my dad and told him what was going on and wanted to know what he thought it was. Before I talked to him, I turned down my radio so I could hear him. After talking to him, my radio wouldn't come back on. Great, now what?? So I go maybe 20 more miles and start up a hill. While going up it felt like I was losing power. I pushed harder on the accelerator and it felt like it drained even more. Finally, my car died all together and we were in the middle of fscking NO WHERE when my car finally died. Well, my friends have AAA and they got it towed back to my dad's house. (We were 119 miles from there at that point.) After crying for about an hour, I finally stopped and we just started throwing rocks at squirrels and stuff because there was nothing else to do. I took a picture of my car on the side of the road. lol I also took a picture of the nothingness where we were. I'll post them when I get them developed.
So........I called my dad just a little while ago after getting back home (we stopped in Bakersfield over night so my friends could visit friends of theirs.) and he said that my alternator is gone. OH, while on the side of the road I noticed something wet under my car. My car has NEVER leaked anything the whole time I've owned it, mind you. It's oil. GREAT. Maybe he just didn't tighten the oil filter or something, I dunno. I'm hoping for the best on that one. So now I have to save up money again and get an alternator and he said I need a new master cylinder for my breaks.

*Sigh* I had a bad weekend. :(

EDIT: Oh yeah, it was the first time I'd driven my car since March.

Sorry about your car, Heath, I know how it is to have your hopes totally blown and to be carless (my Mustang blew a head gasket last year, I had to depend on other people for rides, it sucked).

Sounds like some you boys are PMSing. Take an Advil and lie down for a while if you can't behave.

Man that sucks... but if more random stuff keeps going "dead" and or breaking, you'd better get a new car. You already put in a ton of money in it.

I can now say I feel your pain, 'cept we weren't in snow. lol

lol That's why I thought I'd add it. My friends and I are all very much animal lovers. You should have seen my friend this weekend. Her friend has a daughter and they just got a new kitten. My friend, Rebecca, kept telling her friend's daughter to be careful with the kitty. She didn't think she was holding him the right way. :)

Thanks, babe. I'll get over to Vegas some time. We still have to party! ;) Oh, and I don't think they need just Advil. They need some Motrin too. :p

That really sucks.

Sad news? Unfortunate, yes but I don't find that sad news. I thought maybe your cat died or something.

I must agree. Sure it sucks, but if you haven't used it since March, it can't be that big of a deal.

Hmm....it wasn't like she just decided to park it, she couldn't afford to fix it....not like she didn't want to be driving it.

Cool your jets son. Now that have the whole story, I can see why she cried. It sucks when it seems like everything that could go wrong, does.:( Hang in there Heather.

You may not need to replace the alternator. Have you Mechanic check the "brushes" and you may beabl to just replace them for around 10-20 bucks. PM if you want my Phone number so I can explain it to your cousins BF. I used to do that on alot of the alteranators that got replaced when I worked at Kragens. Not sure on the honda ones but I know on the Chevy and ford ones we used to all the time.
