I have reached epic geekdom

I now officially have a home server

I took my old desktop(Pentium 4 1 gig ddr) and installed Windows Home Server on it. It automatically backs up all my pcs everyday among other things like remote access to all my files via the web and mobile devices. I got a dual core AMD and mobo from Fry's that I put in a new case. So now in my house I have 2 desktops and 2 laptops, and 1 server. What are some other useful features/things I can do with it besides backing up files and sharing files?

I thought about using WHS until I read about how it corrupts files 🙂. Now I won't touch it until reports claim it is fixed.

I run Vista Ultimate on my "server", which may sound odd, but it also serves to display media on my TV (i.e. it's hooked up to my HDTV). It works pretty well for it. The only thing that makes me wish it were using Linux or something else is when it comes to installing FOSS... I've always had a harder time with certain things when it comes to CYGWIN. Like when I went to setup a CVN server two weekends ago. I believe the issue is the OpenSSH + CYGWIN cannot reference CVNNT for some reason (as typing CVN into CYGWIN window says it is not a valid bash).

So yeah, I run a SVN off mine as well as run the media to the TV. I've ran a WotLK Private WoW server off of it as well.

if you are a real geek, you would run a few servers at home, including a mail server, proxy, file, web and security or domain controller

Run some virtual machines on it so you can experiment with other operating systems?
SQL server?
Web Server?
Firewall/Router?
FTP server?
Small private game server for a game you like?
Hide your pron so the GF don't find it?

<-- used to run a server on Slackware 3.5. I reached epic geekdom with room to spare in 10 years ago.

...and I have designed my own PCB.

Nope, not at all. Go back to Fry's and build your own case resembling R2-D2...then the ATOT elders will consider your claim again.
