I have only one working fan in my case. QUIET LIKE NO OTHER

So basically I'm a freak on silence. I use only Nexus fans because Vantec Stealth suck, and Nexus is even quieter than Panaflo. The only ones that come close are Papst, or SilenX.

Anyways, I have a 92mm Nexus on the CPU. That's it. The PSU had a 80mm, but I stuck some resistors in it and I guess I gave it too much - the fan won't spin up now. No problem. I have no intake. I do have a 120mm exhaust, but I turned it off using Speedfan. GPU is passively cooled using an NB cooler. NB has the fan unplugged.

Anyways, with only one 92mm fan, I'm in heaven on noise. I have a 7200.7 Barracuda that's suspended and my case is an Antec Sonata.

My temps are: 122F (50C) CPU, 104F (40C) Case, 116F (47C) HDD.

The system has been on 24/7 for a week now. My CRT monitor is louder than the PC.

What do you think?

What processor are you running??? Either way, I say that's running HOT especially if those are idle temps.

BTW, what are you still using a CRT for??

Sounds pretty cool to me. Be careful of the power supply though, power supply components like to pop when they get too hot. What kind of power supply are you using, anyway? (I may need to get one since yours seems to be working fine without a fan :) )

Now that I think about it, there are some power supplies that don't require fans, but they have big external heatsinks (I think I saw one for sell on newegg by thermaltake).

1. your case is really hot.
2. if that?s your idle temp your CPU is also really hot.
3. your GPU is prolly going burn up do to no air flow in your case. unless it has extremely low power consumption.
4. your Northbridge may also die a pre-mature death. If there was a fan on the heatsink it's there for a reason, if you want to passively cool it you need a heatsink designed for that purpose.
5. CRT's still look better then LCDs.

50C isnt that bad. If your system is stable, then you are fine. Mobo temps are hardly worth believing whole-heartedly. Just be careful.

I don't mind the temps. It's not going to blow up on me or anything, and performance damage doesn't really occur until 75C anyways.
My GPU (GF3Ti200) has been like this for over a year. If it goes out, it'll be a cheap replacement.
I actually pulled out an Enlight PSU because I got this Antec for free.

Check my Rig in the Sig... I have a Mobile 2600+.

I should probably say it's been stable like this for the past 3 months as well. :)

While I think LOTS of people at Anandtech are freaky about wanting to over cool their box, I have to say, you have gone the other extreme. I recommend getting the power supply fan working at least.

I'm assuming your system is the AMD processor as posted under your "Rig" link?

IDLE temperature is one thing, but LOAD requires removing the heat -- or else . . .

Have you stressed this system to see what temperatures it approaches under load conditions? I'd almost be afraid to try.

INteresting experiment, if that's what you're doing. Also -- Canadian -- in your neck of the woods, you must find room temperatures in the 60's F more common than "down here" between LA and San Diego. I envy you. I can't stand the summers here.

I'd do it

right now i have the fan in my modstream (120mm) a 92mm vantec stealth on my CPU (definitely not a quiet fan - motor noise), 1 coolermaster intake fan, and same exhaust, and the arctic nv5 silencer, and the PC is at a great noise level for me. not loud at all. and it's very cool inside thanks to intake/exhaust.

The arctic is defeintely a good buy. If I didn't have my GPU on passive I'd be using that.

The winters are as the same as the summers. The computer is indoors.. temps range from 20-24C so it's not a huge adjustment.

I can't stand the winters here either.. I would love LA summers. :D

I can barely here my system over my Hunter ceiling fan (5 80mm case fans, vga silencer, and 80mm speeze cooler), and my idle temps are closer to 27C case, 30C proc.

I'd say you've probably gone a little overkill and will likely start losing components as you stress them. PSU, hdd, and mobo caps will probably bite the dust first. if you really want a quit psu replace your existing one with a seasonic.

I think it would be smarter to add one or two quiet, controlled fans to your case, unless you don't stress your system at all (only Internet/office usage).

you psu is for sure going to fry in 1/4 the time it normally would, if not less. and your temps are really high, my case temp is about 35C
