I have an Abit NF7 Series motherboard - In fact I purchased two. I built each of the comps for my family, one of them has sound working aok ...the other does not.

I have no idea why, the two computers are hardly any different - both had used the same cd of xp for install...both have (mostly) same parts...diff processors though but about the same..

I don't see how these changes could affect the sound...So I tried different drivers, 4.57 audio, 4.62 audio...no avail..

Any recommendations for this problem?

I don't want to have to resort to a pci sound card for no reason.

Thanks.

Did you check to see if sound is enabled in the CMOS of the board that isn't working? If so, and both boards are identical, it sounds (no pun intended) like one of them is defective.

Check the speakers. If the working set fails with the non-working system, it's RMA time.

One more thing to check before you send it back: if you don't have any front-audio ports plugged onto that header, then it needs three jumpers on it in a specific position (look at the working board). Confirm that the jumpers are on the header on the problem board.

You mean the jumpers for having sound through the front ports of the PC?

I have inputs on the front (basic headphone input)..

Your saying there should be jumpers set for that ?

I've tried speakers, tried bios...
Can't RMA - I've had this board for a while...It was supposed to be for someone in Family...they were too hesitant to use the damn PC ....

Basically my option if this jumper thing doesn't work is to buy a sound card for 25$

Edit: Figured out the Jumper's weren't there at all - musta misplaced them - Put em in the right positions and it worked- Thanks everyone!
