I certainly don't think HEAT is worthless, but this you-ship-first sh!t based on the # of evals has always seemed silly to me. That's probably some lunacy conjured up by the seasoned traders who just wanted to create a system that favors them. And to their credit, they have gotten most of the board members to buy into it, so congrats to them. Even if I'm wrong on all this, it'd still remain a pretty stupid idea because everywhere else, you're expected to pay for the merchandise before you can receive it.

It's all a system of trust. As the private trades are an ENTIRELY different thing than purchasing an item at the store, there is some security in knowing you're dealing with someone who will hopefully respect you and trade in a good manner, putting some thought into things like packaging, communication, etc. It's all about making things as smooth as possible and has absolutely nothing to do with "favoriing" the experienced traders.

It has nothing to do with what? Let me get this straight. So Poopa with his 4 evals wants to sell a mobo, and a longtime trader with his 300 evals tells me that I should ship my stuff first, and he'll inspect, test, and then he'll send his payment. Who's got the transaction running in his favor? Poopa, or the 300 eval guy? If you(or those who agree with you, and I'm sure there's many) don't see things this way, then you might as well put me on your do-not-trade list now because you're never going to receive anything from me until you pay and I think you're being deliberately obtuse.

done. :)

you're damn right it's in my favor. i've been around trading on this forum for 5 years building up my heat and i'm not going to get trolled by someone who managed to get 4 just so he could gain some trust. it's been done, and i'm not willing to take that chance. sorry. and i doubt i'm the only one who feels that way.

Ditto.

what you say is true fisher, but saying out right just hurts people's feelings.

I for one have:

1. cross-shipped
2. accepted half payment
3. paid first
4. shipped first

And every one of those transactions went smoothly. (wow I've done all 4 cases with only 7 heat lol)

I think the persons on both ends of the deal should compromise, it doesn't always have to be one way or the other. Refer to the cases I mentioned above. :)

Once in a while I will find a something that im looking for or something that I am looking to get rid of and just do a trade or a sell. I have no time looking all day long to find something to sell or trade on here just so that I can have a lot of heatware.

Just a thought and not geared towards anyone.

Insulting people isn't going to make people want to trade with you.

While I don't agree with the phrasing...he does have a bit of a point. Heat is just a guideline. Its like credit, if you don't have any you're perceived as a bad risk even if you're a good guy. I remember some one saying my opinion didn't really count much in a thread about heat once since I had (and still have) so little. Its like "Hey, none of its negative heat...why shouldn't my opinion count?"

Some people trade a lot of stuff, some don't thats all I'm saying. I very rarely sell anything. And his last point was valid, IMO...I'm not gonna just sell a bunch of junk and buy a bunch of junk I don't really want just to get heatware.

That said, of course I feel better when trading with some one with 200 heat versus 2.

As far as shipping first...you don't want to ship first, don't! I'm not aware of any rules stating you have to just because you have low heat. Back when I had even less heat, a guy offered half payment before, half afterwards as a compromise. Sounded fair to me since he had like 75 heat.

Wow, you attribute people not having HEAT because they have "a life"? Did a college professor assist you in this train of thought? I ask because it's amazingly profound and can definitely be applied to everyone in the FS/FT forum. umm. yeah.

It's not hard to get your Heat up, buy 10 zip disks from 10 different people. Most of the time, the sellers will even cover shipping at no extra cost. Here's another profound thought: you're just too lazy and cheap to get your HEAT up. ;)

Exactly my point. No one owes you anything. No one cares if you don't trade here. It's not like you are bringing something useful to the forum.
