Great, this sucks, I have SAT IIs in a week, plus my workouts are going to be off too.

WebMD says an incubation period of "two to seven weeks", well my girlfriend and I broke up 2 1/2 weeks ago, 2 weeks from when I first started seeing signs. She hasn't come down with it yet, though.

And in the past 2 weeks I probably got 3 people I know infected. :(

Mono dude? Ouch, that ain't any fun.. I don't think I've personally ever had it that I can remember.. but at the same time I think I must have had it sometime.. because my gf came down with it bad last year, like she had to go to the hospital, and I had been around her all the time before she was symptomatic/while she was getting sick, and then right after she got outta the hospital.. We had been making out at those times too and I never got sick so.. shrug. I'm the man. So sorry to hear about your sickness tho

<< dude I dont want to be mean, but *I HEARD* that you usually get mono from girls that suck d### too much... thats pretty much the common cause. I know a girl with mono in my school, and she's 'known' around school for servicing..

but more importantly, sorry to hear you got it... it's from her right?
>>

thats such BS. I had mono for a week and a 1/2 ... my gf (who i broke up with like 3 days before i found out i had it) didn't get it and I wasn't kissing anyone else. It was probably from a water bottle. Not that this revokes your point but your wrong. I know I talked to my doctor about it.

You have mono for about 2-8 weeks before you show symptoms and after your symptoms go away you still have mono, usually for atleast a month. So you probably wont be sticking your tounge down a girls throat till next term. Sorry.

I had it really bad I couldn't breathe and my ears hurt non stop because my whole nasal system was clogged. I didn't eat for over a week, I think I lost about 10 pounds. My doctor had to end up giving me steroids (a very non-typical cure) to clear my system. Worked pretty well. But thats a last case scenario.

I have to clear up some misinformation.

Mononucleosis is caused by the Epstein-Barr virus. It is possible to contract the Epstein-Barr virus and NOT get mononucleosis. In other words, the virus doesn't always turn into mono.

My current girlfriend had it last year. Given that she'd never dated anyone before me, I feel pretty confident that I was the one who gave her the virus. For whatever reason, the virus did not turn into mono for me; however, it did for her.

In case you're wondering how I know about this, it isn't because I'm a doctor or anything. When she had mono, I picked up a pamphlet at the campus health center called, 'So You Have Mono.' And I read about it. :)

Mono isn't so bad. All you gotta do is get a new receiver. You might even be able to find a black friday special at Circuit City or somewhere and get a deal on something with Dolby Digital.

I had a blood test a while ago and tested positive for Epstein-Barr. I had no idea what it was. Apparently I've been exposed to mono, but I've never gotten it. A friend of mine had it when I was younger, but I don't know if that's where it came from or not. I have a question though. What are the symptoms of Mono? I've been really tired lately and someone asked me if I had mono and I said no. Which, as best I know, I don't. But....reading through this it made me remember about the blood test. Anyway.... What symptoms do you have?

Hold on a sec. If they issued a "mono test" which came back positive, did that confirm that I have the virus, or that I do indeed have mono?

Well, what did your doctor say? I tested positive that I have it in my body (Or whatever he meant. lol) but I didn't have mono. I really don't know how it works, but I guess I could do a search and find out. :)

That sucks man.

My brother just got over it also. He had strep throat at the same time and was miserable. He couldn't workout for a couple of weeks and lost 10 pounds. Doc had to give him steroids to help him.

the virus is latent in your b-cells. you'll continuously shed viral proteins but you shouldn't be infectious.
