I think I have lost all hope on this EPoX 8kHa+. I received it last friday and when put together with a graphics card, processor/heatsink, and memory I powered up and nothing would come up on the monitor. I noticed that the LCD on the board said "C1"... now correct me if im wrong (serioulsly, correct me heh) the manual says it's a memory error? looking at my kingston ram i saw it was ECC which the manual said it did not support. fine I said, I'll order from crucial and get the problem fixed monday when I have propper ram right? wrong. I just powered it up and I get the same exact results. I've just about had it with this board, but I'm hoping that SOMEONE out there has had this same problem and can give me a little guidance. I beg of you anand members who are usually so kind with helpful answers, please help a brotha out!

I also tried powering up with the motherboard outside of the case on a cardboard box... didnt help. any guidance would be appreciated [GREATLY].

is the ram

unbuffered, no ecc, ddr 2100 ram ?

Is it in right (not backwards ?)

Is it in the right DIMM slot ?

did you set the fsb jumper set right ? (Start with 100 just to be on the safe side instead of 133)

did you clear the cmos (see manual) ?

And do what flexy said with the mobo out of the case, nothing plugged in except CPU, RAM, vid card. No drives. Make sure you do the CMOS reset. Also, if nogo, try the RAM in a different slot.

<< unbuffered, no ecc, ddr 2100 ram ? >>

yes

<< Is it in right (not backwards ?) >>

only way it will fit :)

<< Is it in the right DIMM slot ? >>

slot 1

<< did you set the fsb jumper set right ? (Start with 100 just to be on the safe side instead of 133) >>

tried both.

<< did you clear the cmos (see manual) ? >>

I've never exactly cleared cmos before so damn if I know if this is correct, but when I use the jumper setting in the manual I cant power up the system whatsoever (not quite sure if that's normal)

thanks for the suggestions. though it's looking more and more like I have a dead board :/

Heh, don't keep the CMOS clear jumper in that state... it only has to be in the clear state for 5 sec or so... then put it back to normal.

When resetting CMOS, turn off your computer, unplug the power, move the jumper to pins 2 and 3, wait for 1 minute, then replace the jumper to its original position, then plug back in and start up.

NOTE:This will reset your bios settings to default and you might have to change back some of your settings.

Validate a single stick of RAM in a working mainboard. I prefer Crucial PC2100 or Corsair PC2400 modules.

Then try that single stick in the first DIMM (DIMM1).

If it fails, RMA the board.

I've seen this on several 8KHA+ boards now. I'm not sure what the deal is, but either quality control has hit the gutter, or there are some serious hardware issues with 8KHA+.

Does it display the same code w/o the RAM installed?

Also, just a little FYI... the LCD you are refering to is call a dual 7-segment LED display. :)

yea splice, I get the same exact reading whether the RAM is in there or not. and yes I do realize that it's called an LED, but do you also realize I'm a moron? :)

nope sure didn't realize that. ;) heh.

I would guess it's the RAM then if the hexcode C1 is still being displayed. Still can't be sure though.

I RMA'd for another EPoX board. if the next one gives me any problem, then label me shuttle from now on :)
