i have i5 760 do i have to buy "ivy bridge" CPU ???

hi guys, first thing you should know that my English isn't to much good

i have i5 760 + GTX 460 and it still doing a good job
but in future if i want higher performance for gaming
what the strongest video card i could use without getting bottleneck ?
OC ? does it change any thing ?
do i have to buy ivy bridge motherboard + ivy bridge CPU ? 😵
or it's better to save money and buy a strong GPU ?
 
overclock + new videocard + SSD + 8Gb memory

I'm getting a GTX 670 + 4Gb extra memory and that should last me the next 1.5-2 years with my gaming needs, and be very similar to your setup.

No it will not. You'll lose about 10-20% of the 670's potential. The 7870 is a better choice if you're not going to overclock, or the 7950 if it is close in price to the 7870 where you are.
 
I would wait till Haswell for you. Lynnfield to Ivy is a 50/50. Had it been Core 2 I would say 100% sure.

Get a GTX670 or so.

Rubbish. My GF uses an i7 860 with a GTX670. It all depends on resolution and settings.

An i5 760 is still a very strong chip. A good OC (~4GHz) will make it an excellent chip. For that you are going to want a better-than-stock cooler but once you have that you won't need a CPU upgrade for a while.

If you aren't willing/able to OC I would probably suggest a 7870, 7950 or 660 Ti, 670 depending on which maker you prefer. If you overclock take a 7950/7970 or 670/680.

If you OC you probably won't need to even get on the Haswell bandwagon unless you just get the itch or want lower power consumption.

Thats just because the i7 920 has a crappy low clockspeed. Overclocking as suggested in the 2nd post in this thread mitigates that. Who runs their 920 at 2.66ghz anyways, it does ~3.4 on stock volts

These cases looks mostly GPU bound. No need to buy a slower GPU just as an excuse to either keep the CPU (forever) or do a CPU upgrade, just to be GPU bottlenecked again.

His best case would still be to buy a better GPU and upgrade CPU later on.
 
Get a $20-30 Cooler Master 212+ cooler, overclock that CPU to 3.6-3.9ghz, get an HD7950 and overclock it. Best bang for the buck to tie you over for a couple years.
 
Don't bother with Haswell as you will get locked in just as you are now and I have the same cpu my self. A quick overclock and some good ram that is all that you need to max out most cards with ease including a 670.

agreed. OC your CPU to 3.6 Ghz. with the 12.11b drivers HD 7950 (1.15 Ghz) easily beats GTX 670 (1.3 Ghz). If you prefer Nvidia get GTX 670.
 
My i5 760 @ 3.8 crushes everything. There's not much noticable difference between it and my Sandy Bridge rig.

I'm sure there would be synthetic benching differences, but in terms of playing and enjoying games like WoW, GW2, League of Legends, Skyrim, and BF3, no problems at all.
