I have half a keg of flat beer

I graduated last weekend (hooray) but unfortunately I managed to catch the stomach flu just before graduation. This also meant that I was unable to do my part during my graduation party to drink the keg of Widmer Heffeweisen I bought for the occasion. As such I am now the dismayed owner of a half keg of beer that is flat as a 2x4. Being the frugal geek that I am I really need to do something with it other than tossing it, but I doubt I can drink a half keg of warm, flat beer even if it is Heffeweisen.

I'm thinking I can cook with it, but I have no particular recepie in mind. Or something else, who knows. That's where you come in. Give me your recepies. Give me your ideas. How can I make this half keg of flat beer not useless?
 
The only time I ever buy beer these days is to cook brats.


Also:

Make a marinade of the beer, onions, carrot, salt, pepper, nutmeg, and bay leaf. Marinate meat, refrigerated, for 24 hours, turning occasionally. In a heavy skillet, saute the bacon or salt pork in the butter until crisp. Remove, drain, and reserve strips. Drain and dry meat; reserve marinade. Dust meat with seasoned flour and brown in fat remaining in pan. Add unstrained marinade and bring to a boil. Cover and simmer for 1 1/4 hours. Add the potatoes and fried pork strips and simmer, covered, for 30 minutes more. Skim off fat.
This recipe yields 6 to 8 servings.

I was sick for 5 straight days; I'd planned on doing it over a period of time, not all at once. By the time I got better it was flat. 🙁

Also, someone explain what you use beer for when cooking bratwurst. 'cause if you cook it in the beer I think that sounds like an excellent plan.

Not when you're busy being passed out from the anti-nausea meds you took and your friends are too drunk/stupid to pump up the keg before they crash for the night.

I don't know, I don't think that even I could handle almost 16 gallons of beer in one night.
 
i say dump it.

you could theoretically re-carbonate it. You'd need a co2 cylinder, a regulator, and all the couplings. Even recarbonated, the beer will be somewhat oxidized, perhaps leading to a pronounced cardboard flavor. Its somewhat of a debate as to when too much o2 is too much...cask ale in part benefits from exposure to 02 (similar to how wines improve with breathing), but most people will tell you that your beer is done for and you should just move on.

Keg beer goes flat overnight.

It takes longer than a night for it to go flat.

depends on the circumstance. if the beer was left warm, and the keg was no longer airtight, it would go flat fairly quickly.....easily within a 12 hour period.

Hmmm. We always take the tap off and it sits in a bucket of ice. Never had a problem with flat beer the next day.
