I have had ssds die in each of my systems

Is there a higher rate of failure for some drives on Intel AHCI controllers? Both systems used intel chipsets with sata-2. Two were vertex2 drives, and a third used as replacement seems to be stuck locked after adding a security password in my laptop's bios.

I need a replacement, what ssd for sata-2 uses in a laptop, then if it isn't too expensive,or a replacement I am sent comes through, I will remedy the desktop. Sucks not being able to DVR "the big game" on media center through. lame

I saw an adata x-80 from intel in the mail the other day in an ad. ~52.00. figured intel-on intel was not going to stir up issues. But the expense....

I originally had a vertex 2 drive but it had problems waking up from sleep. I switched to a Samsung drive and so far it has worked pretty well.

the two chipsets are p45 and hm55, those are both ich10/R, right?
would a crucial or anothet type of vertex work better on these systems? are rma replacements usually to product binning or to product line? Maybe i should get a nice raid sata-III controller card for my last pci-e 1x slot. or a 4x. 4x pcie 2.0 is enough to run too 240's in raid 0, right?

what about intel brand? m320?
what controller does that use- all in-house intel?

This might be a firmware issue (really just guessing into the blue here).
I had one older Supertalent SSD die on me, i mean literally it stopped being recognized y the OS from one day to the other after approx. 2 years of working.

I tried to revive it and get my data back (luckily it "only" contained the OS)..but no success.

But doing a factory reset (which turned it into a bare bone drive)..and then flashing a new firmware over revived it again and it's working again without a problem. Data was lost tho.

I have two intel drives in a really risky raid0 array and so far almost two years later it is still working find for me. I have had good luck with SSD I guess. I also have three other builds with the drives you mention vertex2 and no problems. I wouldn't think the failure rate or longevity should be any better worse than a standard platter HD.

i have a 250gb non ncq sata drive, a 640gb drive, and a 1tb drive, each split into partitions, eahc bought when each came into the normal buying range of spending. each western digital. only thing one did worse than another is speed, heat, noise, access time, and capacity. nofailure. i ahve 2 drives that are ssd die the same death and one of later generation panic mode on me. i think company matters more boradly than the name. as long as the stds stay consistent.

an intel ss don a intel chipset controller, is fine, right? less chances of incompatability. how much is a 320 series or w/e intel ssd for my hm55 intel i5 1st gen 450m? 120gb capacity, sata-2 3gb/s.
