I have enabled onboard sound in the BIOS, but I still don't have it. Do I need to load the drivers?

I found that when i updated my WinXP installation, SIS audio Driver file was on the list of updates to install, so drivers are most likely going to be the cause. But also as stated above, make sure speakers are plugged into right connector :D :p

Just a precaution also; make sure the speakers you are using are "powered" speakers. The K7S5A onboard sound is not amplified and will produce little if any sound without powered speakers.

When I used that board, WinXP had problems with the sound. It stopped working after 3 days. Never did figure out why.

Well for the vast majority of people it simply works. Enable, install drivers, and use. No tricks required.

Are you asking if alm99 found a solution, or are you stating that this is a common issue that needs solved?

After quite a few K7S5A I've had in hand, running every thinkable operating system, I must say there is no "generic problem" with this board's sound. If it doesn't work, it's a driver installation issue or User Error - and if it stops working after a couple of days use I bet the output circuitry has been toasted by unamplified speakers.
